Opinion: Republican election sabotage has already started. New Mexico is proof of that
Laurence H. Tribe is the Carl M. Loeb University professor emeritus and a professor of constitutional law emeritus at Harvard Law School. Dennis Aftergut, a former federal prosecutor, is currently of counsel to Lawyers Defending American Democracy . The views expressed in this commentary are their own. Read more opinion at CNN. (CNN) Last week, the all-Republican Otero County commission in rural New Mexico showed us how deeply former President Donald Trump's disinformation has penetrated our country's election institutions. Acting in its capacity as an election canvassing board, the county commission abandoned its legal duty to certify the county election results because, as the commissioners declared, they just " don't trust" the Dominion voting machines that New Mexico uses to tabulate votes. Indonesia’s NasDem party eyes coalition after endorsing potential presidential candidates
JAKARTA (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): Indonesia's fourth largest party NasDem has endorsed three presidential candidates, and is in talks with other political parties to form a coalition that can nominate a candidate for the 2024 election. The party's shortlist comprises Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo - both front runners in electoral surveys - along with Indonesian military commander (TNI) General Andika Perkasa. All three are non-NasDem members. The party has also stepped up talks with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Democratic Party in what observers say may lead to the establishment of another coalition of parties in Indonesia. Combined, the three parties would meet the parliamentary threshold to nominate a candidate in the next presidential election. Indonesian law requires any party or a coalition of parties that holds at least 20 per cent of Parliament seats - 115 out of 575 seats - or 25 per cent votes of the … [Read more...] about Indonesia’s NasDem party eyes coalition after endorsing potential presidential candidates
Democrats appear to be helping Colorado election deniers win primaries. Here’s why
For Colorado Democrats, the reversal of Roe vs. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court underscores why politicians like Greg Lopez, the top-line candidate in the Republican race to unseat Democratic Gov. Jared Polis, are so dangerous. Lopez not only believes abortion should be banned in all cases, but also told The Denver Post earlier this month that anyone who becomes pregnant because they were raped should see the pregnancy as a good opportunity. “I’m a firm believer that a child brings happiness into the lives of people,” he said. “It may not have been something that you planned on, it was something you didn’t agree to, but for me a child brings happiness.” Democratic leaders and groups in Colorado roundly and regularly denounce Lopez and other politicians for these kinds of remarks. But at the same time, Democratic campaign groups are spending millions to advance those politicians’ careers — temporarily. These groups have run ads and mailers and sent out texts and emails … [Read more...] about Democrats appear to be helping Colorado election deniers win primaries. Here’s why

Getting rid of masks and revised closing times in Thailand – waiting for official rubber stamp
Whilst we might be rid of the Thailand Pass on July 1, there appears to be an administrative delay to the changes in mask requirements and changes to the closing times. In clarifying new face mask guidelines, Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin, the spokesperson for CCSA says that all 77 provinces in Thailand would be redesignated as green zones. Previously there were only yellow and blue zones where earlier Covid restrictions had been largely lifted. In the new country-wide green zones, wearing a face mask outdoors will be voluntary “except in crowded places such as public transport, markets and event venues”, or for people with health conditions of concern. He clarified that there will be three conditions where you can remove your mask… – If you are in a specific area alone – If you can safely social distance yourself from others and the area is well-ventilated – If you are eating, exercising, performing an art, or receiving medical or cosmetic care on your face But, whilst the … [Read more...] about Getting rid of masks and revised closing times in Thailand – waiting for official rubber stamp
Trump-Backed Candidates Lose Badly In Key GOP Primaries
Tuesday’s primary and runoff elections saw two Trump-backed candidates suffer massive losses as the former president’s endorsement record endures recent setbacks. Brian Kemp-endorsed Mike Collins. Last month, Trump-endorsed Jody Hice also lost his Republican nomination for Georgia secretary of state. However, Trump-endorsed Katie Britt from Alabama did pull out a 26 point win for her senate seat nomination. Democrat and Republican congressional seats as well as Democrat secretary of state and lieutenant governor nominations were up for grabs in Georgia, testing the endorsement powers of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and Donald Trump.
