Korean law on gamers may make metaverse useless

January 24, 2022 by koreajoongangdaily.joins.com

An illustration picture taken in London on December 30, 2021, shows gold plated souvenir cryptocurrency coins arranged by a screen displaying a NFT (Non-Fungible Token) logo. [AFP/YONHAP] The possibility of earning non-fungible tokens (NFT) in virtual gaming worlds shook the market and led to a rapid increase in the stock prices of a number of companies, until it became apparent that NFTs may be stuck in these virtual worlds. NFTs are unique, irreplaceable and irreproducible digital objects that represent the digital ownership of assets. The tokens are backed by blockchain technology to give buyers proof of ownership. Since late last year, a number of game companies have been contemplating the addition of NFTs to their games. The tokens could be discovered during gameplay, or points won by players could be redeemed for the tokens. The innovation raised the possibility of a useful workaround to a Korean law that prevents gamers from turning points earned in the gaming world … [Read more...] about Korean law on gamers may make metaverse useless

Congress neither national nor Indian, it’s now party of ‘bhai-bahan’: BJP President J P Nadda

May 19, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

JP Nadda (File image) The Congress is neither national nor Indian and not democratic either and has become a "bhai-bahan" party, BJP president J P Nadda said on Thursday in a sharp attack on dynastic parties. Addressing a seminar on "Threat of Dynastic Parties to Democratic Governance", Nadda said dynastic parties, where a person’s interest reigns supreme, lack ideology and are a threat to democracy. While the Constitution bars any discrimination on the basis of birth, leadership in these parties is decided on the basis of birth and others are ignored, he said, bringing in dynasty-run regional parties in almost every state as well as the Congress in his attack. The BJP president blamed the Congress for the growth of regional parties, accusing the main opposition party of not giving space to regional aspirations during its dominance over national politics. The BJP, he said, believes in "unity among diversity" and gives space to regional aspirations while keeping the … [Read more...] about Congress neither national nor Indian, it’s now party of ‘bhai-bahan’: BJP President J P Nadda

Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle

May 12, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Often misunderstood, Redesign Health’s model is a very different way to create, fund and launch healthcare startups, but will it pay off over the long term? Typically, a story starts with what a company is. In the case of Redesign Health , perhaps it’s best to start with what it isn’t. Redesign Health is not a venture capital (VC) firm, despite the fact that it's often listed among other VCs in funding press releases . It’s not a startup studio or accelerator, even though it’s named as a partner in building many early-stage healthcare companies. Instead, Redesign Health styles itself as “a company that powers innovation in healthcare by developing technologies, tools, and insights that lower the barriers to change across the industry.” What does that mean? After conversations with Redesign Health CEO Brett Shaheen, in addition to other entrepreneurs in the Redesign Health family, the answer is seemingly … [Read more...] about Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle

Preparing For Cyber Attacks – Strengthening Defenses Against Nation-State Threats

May 5, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of the ransomware attack against Colonial Pipeline . That attack was soon followed by the ransomware attack against JBS . One thing both of those attacks have in common is that they are attributed to cybercrime gangs operating within Russia. Groups like Darkside and REvil, along with threat actors from APTs associated with Russian intelligence agencies pose a serious threat to organizations around the world. As the people of Ukraine heroically defend their country from destruction by Russian military forces, there remains a very real risk—expectation, actually—that Russia or threat actors aligned with Russia could launch devastating cyberattacks. There was an expectation that Russia would launch coordinated cyberattacks against Ukraine and its allies prior to, or in conjunction with the military invasion. For the most part, that has not happened, although there have been … [Read more...] about Preparing For Cyber Attacks – Strengthening Defenses Against Nation-State Threats

Georgia Voters Appeal Decision Allowing Marjorie Taylor Greene To Stay On Ballot

May 16, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Georgia voters are still trying to keep Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) off the midterm ballot despite Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger ruling she can remain a candidate, as the challengers appealed Raffensperger’s ruling Monday and asked the state’s Superior Court to block his decision. Key Facts Five of Greene’s constituents, backed by the group Free Speech for People, argued the appeals court should overturn Raffensperger’s order, saying it was based on “errors of law.” The voters sued to block Greene from the ballot in March because they allege she’s an “insurrectionist” for encouraging the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol building, which would violate a provision of the 14th Amendment that bars lawmakers from serving in Congress if they’ve “engaged” in an insurrection after taking their oath of office. The appeal argues that Raffensperger, who on May 6 affirmed an … [Read more...] about Georgia Voters Appeal Decision Allowing Marjorie Taylor Greene To Stay On Ballot
