Huge, advertising-based, general-purpose social networks aren’t the high-growth cash cows they once were, as Facebook’s recent “growth” numbers would suggest. Many consumers, it turns out, would rather spend their time watching short-form videos than sharing memes and hitting “like” buttons. And new restrictions on user tracking have made it harder for mass-market social networks to target ads. advertisement advertisement The founders of a new social network called Niche believe the next generation of social networks might cater to online communities formed around more specific interests, such as hobbies or creator businesses . So, on the Niche app, which became available in the App Store Tuesday, you would find groups formed around rock climbing or around people who enjoy collecting Star Wars memorabilia. Eventually, Niche will host groups based on many different things, including music artists and business events. advertisement … [Read more...] about These Facebook and Tinder vets are building a Web3 social network called Niche

Bill Maher Claims ‘Fat Celebration’ Is Happening In U.S., Oversimplifies Obesity Epidemic
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s a shame what Bill Maher has been saying about the obesity epidemic. Back in 2019, Maher literally asked people to “fat shame” others more on his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher,” as I covered for Forbes . Now, in the latest episode of his show, Maher complained that America has “gone from fat acceptance to fat celebration.” Maher claimed as well that “There’s a disturbing trend going on in America these days with rewriting science to fit ideology or just to fit what you want reality to be,” as you can see in the following tweet from Maher and the accompanying video: Just to be clear, Maher is not a scientist. During this segment, he also didn’t present any real scientific studies or have any, you know, real live scientists present. So, hmmm, was he in fact presenting actual science or was he rather rewriting science to fit his ideology or just to fit what he wants reality to be? Well, let’s take a look at … [Read more...] about Bill Maher Claims ‘Fat Celebration’ Is Happening In U.S., Oversimplifies Obesity Epidemic

First Child Death From Marburg Virus In Ghana, Brings Outbreak Death Toll To 3
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Ghana has just had four firsts when it comes to Marburg virus disease (MVD) with none of them being good firsts. Archie Battersbee: U.K. Boy At The Center Of Life Support Battle Dies
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A U.K. boy who’s been the focus of an international legal battle has died hours after his life support was switched off. The parents of Archie Battersbee, 12, who suffered severe brain injuries in April, have been trying to keep him on life support for weeks, taking the case as far as the United Nations and the European Court of Human Rights. But doctors, and courts, argued Battersbee was “ brain stem dead ” and that further efforts to keep him alive were “futile.” He died just after midday on Saturday, almost exactly four months after he was found unconscious at home. His parents, Peter Battersbee and Hollie Dance, believe he may have been taking part in a social media challenge at the time. He has been in the care of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel ever since. The tragic case has gripped the nation, with each legal appeal covered widely in the media.
