Middle East Rapprochements: Who Is Standing To Lose?

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Change is brewing in the Middle East. The region’s political landscape transforms as rapprochements emerge. In a turn startling observers, China has brokered a détente between Iran and Saudi Arabia, whose enmity has long been a cornerstone of Middle Eastern strife. Within mere days under Beijing’s watch, the reconciliation between these regional powerhouses altered the political landscape’s main contours. Yet, the Saudi-Iran reconciliation is not the only instance of regional realignment — efforts are also underway to rehabilitate the Assad regime back into the regional fold. As new alliances crystallize, winners and losers emerge in their wake. These developments have far-reaching implications for the region's actors, and understanding their roots and consequences is essential for any observer. Gaining momentum, the China-brokered Saudi-Iran normalization progresses, as reopening embassies and increasing … [Read more...] about Middle East Rapprochements: Who Is Standing To Lose?

Doctor Suing Gwyneth Paltrow Takes The Stand

March 27, 2023 by dailycaller.com

Retired optometrist Terry Sanderson took the stand in Utah on Monday to testify against famous actress Gwyneth Paltrow, alleging his life is forever altered following a collision on a ski hill. The 76-year-old doctor said he sustained brain damage and was left permanently disabled following the collision in 2016 and told the jury Paltrow was allegedly skiing “out of control” before she slammed into him, according to the New York Post. Sanderson said “everything was going great” during his visit to Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, on February 26, 2016. “Then I heard something I’ve never heard at a ski resort. And that was a blood-curdling scream,” he said, according to the NY Post. Paltrow denied the allegations and claimed it was Sanderson that ran into her. Attorneys for @GwynethPaltrow played reconstructive animation of the ski crash she’s being sued for in court Monday. The animation was used to help the jury understand what allegedly happened, using the video … [Read more...] about Doctor Suing Gwyneth Paltrow Takes The Stand

Fox News Host Brian Kilmeade Goes On The War Path Against Trump Following Waco Rally

March 27, 2023 by dailycaller.com

Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade criticized former President Donald Trump on Monday morning following Trump’s Saturday rally in Waco, Texas. During the opening of the rally, Trump’s team played the song “Justice for All” by the J6 Prison Choir, which includes individuals who were jailed for their role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, over the loudspeakers. As footage from the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is displayed in the background, former President Donald Trump stands while a song, “Justice for All,” is played during a campaign rally at Waco Regional Airport, Saturday, March 25, 2023, in Waco, Texas. pic.twitter.com/j8y1XSfJD1 — Evan Vucci (@evanvucci) March 26, 2023 Kilmeade criticized Trump for showing the images. What Is Chelsea’s Plan For Mykhailo Mudryk And Is He Doing Enough To Impress?

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin An image circulated around social media after England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine that depicted Bukayo Saka skipping away from Mykhailo Mudryk, pained expression, sat on the ground. Arsenal fans took delight in the sight of their winger prompting such a moment of reflection from a player who could have joined them in January. Mudryk was Arsenal’s top target for months before Chelsea swooped in. Now at Stamford Bridge instead, the 22-year-old has struggled to find his feet for his new club, going six Premier PINC League matches without finding the back of the net. Substituted after 60 minutes against England, Mudryk looked low on confidence. Potter has settled on a front three of Joao Felix, Kai Havertz and one other with Christian Pulisic possibly ahead of Mudryk in the pecking order as things currently stand. This raises the question - what is Chelsea’s plan for the Ukrainian winger? How will Mudryk fit into Potter’s … [Read more...] about What Is Chelsea’s Plan For Mykhailo Mudryk And Is He Doing Enough To Impress?

What Crypto Investors Need To Know About NFT Tax Changes

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Crypto continues to have a rocky 2023, with one of the most recent announcements being a pending lawsuit against Coinbase by the Securities and Exchange Commission. While the SEC continues to hammer on virtually every crypto-native organization or service provider, there are other issues that investors need to keep in mind. Taxes are a part of any business conversation, and rarely a fun one to discuss. Enjoyable or not, however, taxes are an important topic for any investment or business decision; crypto taxes and tax treatment continue to provide fertile ground for debate, discourse, and wide ranging conversation. Even as the Internal Revenue Service has continuously updated guidance, issued multiple online Q&A documents, and made changes to tax forms for U.S. taxpayers, the tax situation surrounding crypto continues to be a complicated one. Straight-forward crypto transactions, such as using bitcoin (or other crypto) … [Read more...] about What Crypto Investors Need To Know About NFT Tax Changes

Funding For Biodiversity Efforts Is Now Available To Wine Growers In Bourgogne

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Rows of tidy vineyards can be a beautiful sight, but winemaking regions around the world are becoming more aware of the drawbacks of monoculture on the farm. When one type of crop is cultivated to the reduction of other vegetation and wildlife, the system can become imbalanced. Environmental scales are further tipped when chemical or high-intervention practices are employed to control the influence of nature and weather. But wine producers have been encouraged by the benefits of biodiversity, an increase in the variety of life existing in an area — in this case, the vineyard and surrounding spaces. Biodiversity has the potential to inhibit disease and pests, support healthy water systems, increase soil fertility, aid pollination, and promote beneficial species. The Bourgogne (Burgundy) region has recently announced funding to build biodiversity within its climats. (Climat is a local term that identifies Bourgogne vineyards as … [Read more...] about Funding For Biodiversity Efforts Is Now Available To Wine Growers In Bourgogne

A Quantum Leap In Timing

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Paul is President of Quantum Computing at ColdQuanta , where he leads the team building the world’s most useful quantum computer. So much of modern life relies on GPS that it has been estimated that an outage would cost the U.S. economy over $1 billion per day. Such an outage isn’t too far-fetched. We have seen recent examples of GPS being blocked in conflict zones, spoofed for nefarious purposes and disrupted by solar storms. At its heart, GPS is a timing system. To understand how timing relates to navigation, and how quantum technology will enable us to overcome the limitations of GPS, we need to go back in history a few hundred years. Dava Sobel’s book Longitude recounts the tale of John Harrison’s mechanical clock that revolutionized maritime navigation and global trade. In the same way that Harrison’s clock accelerated economic growth through the 18th and 19th centuries, optical clocks are … [Read more...] about A Quantum Leap In Timing

TRAPPIST-1’s Planets May Have Shockingly Similar Compositions, Says NASA

January 23, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The nearby TRAPPIST-1 star system’s seven rocky planets have compositions that appear to be both low in density and maybe even shockingly similar, an international team of astronomers reported this week. New, more precise observational mass estimates of these rocky low-mass planets orbiting the cool red dwarf star TRAPPIST-1, make it clear that this alien solar system is radically different from our own. “These planets could have accreted directly from the protoplanetary disk around a much cooler star than the Sun,” Erik Asphaug, a planetary geophysicist at the University of Arizona, who was not part of the study, told me. The international team of researchers used 1000 hours of observing time on NASA’s now decommissioned Spitzer Space Telescope to make their observations. Their findings, reported in the Planetary Science Journal , make it clear that this bizarre alien solar system —- located nearly 40 light years … [Read more...] about TRAPPIST-1’s Planets May Have Shockingly Similar Compositions, Says NASA
