Supporters of ex-President Jair Bolsonaro storm Brazilian government buildings. (Image: AFP/File) Adages don’t come more prosaic than “football is a game of two halves”. But there is profoundness in the anodyne. Just ask Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, our two stalwarts at the FIFA World Cup final in 2022 in Lusail, Qatar. Argentina and France squared off, each with the divine right to add a third star to their sacred crest. La Albiceleste and Messi on the scoresheet in the first half, a rampant 2-0 and all set to take the Jules Rimet trophy to the Americas. And then, Kylian Mbappe, widely touted to be the greatest since Pele, having already won the last World Cup in his teens, had something to say. Another two goals were scored in this half, except by Les Bleu, and 2-2 it was. Extra Time followed the same script, a goal on each side, 3-3, and then penalties. For a while, it looked like Kylian Mbappe, would have two World Cup titles at the age of 23, a feat achieved by the … [Read more...] about December 2022: In South America, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Like It Or Not, New Nuclear Reactors Are Coming To The U.S. Waterfront
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Over the next decade, a combination of strategic, economic, and environmental concerns will bring modern, fourth-generation nuclear reactors to the waterfront. American ports and ship operators that begin preparing the U.S. waterfront for nuclear power today—building a trained nuclear-ready workforce and establishing operational protocols for nuclear vessels and support infrastructure—will enjoy enormous competitive advantages. Today, new modular nuclear reactor designs are evolving beyond the grand-scale, thousand-megawatt “modular” pressurized or boiling water reactors used in America’s current-day nuclear power plants, offering smaller, scalable options for size and safety. The difference is stark—in Georgia, the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant is preparing to commission two big new reactors and become a massive four-reactor, 5000-megawatt regional generating center, while modular reactor startup NuScale Power offers a … [Read more...] about Like It Or Not, New Nuclear Reactors Are Coming To The U.S. Waterfront

World-record sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt (Image: Reuters) Olympic champion Usain Bolt is seeking to recover more than $12.7 million that disappeared from his account with a Jamaican investment firm and is willing to take the case to court if necessary, Bolt's attorney said. "We will be going to court with the matter" if the company does not return the funds, Gordon said. "It is a grave disappointment, and we are hoping that the matter will be resolved in a way that Mr. Bolt will recover his money and be able to live in peace." SSL said in a Jan. 12 statement that it had become aware of fraudulent activity by a former employee and has referred the matter to law enforcement, adding that it had taken steps to secure assets and strengthen protocols. … [Read more...] about Usain Bolt seeks missing $12.7 million from Jamaica investment firm

Copa America: Brazil ‘not 100% focused’ as they lose to Argentina
The main storyline of the Copa America final was easy to recognize. Argentina ended their title drought with a 1-0 win over Brazil in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The only goal scorer was Angel Di Maria, who scored with a lovely chip in the 22nd minute. It was the first major title for superstar Lionel Messi with the Argentine national team. “It was not an attractive final. After the opening goal, Argentina retreated to make the spaces tighter and preserve the lead until full time,” the Brazilian-born former German International Paolo Rink told DW. The former Leverkusen player, who currently lives in southern Brazil, would have liked to see more from the Selecao and criticized that “there was just too little.” Related news Manchester City Takes on the Far East: Tour of Thailand and Japan in Mid-July 30 mins ago Indonesian stadium to be demolished after stampede killed 133 Wednesday, October 19, 2022 No Copa America … [Read more...] about Copa America: Brazil ‘not 100% focused’ as they lose to Argentina
