Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If La Liga returned tomorrow, few teams would be nearly ready. It’s the summer transfer window. Players are holidaying, and most teams around Europe are intent on trimming their squads ahead of the preseason, let alone the thinking about the ultimate kick-off in mid-August. Behind the scenes, club departments are scanning the market, liaising with agents and managing outgoings. Some sides have acted quickly, and others still have plenty to do. In Spain, you can see both sides of the spectrum. If top-flight soccer began sooner than expected, national and European champion Real Madrid would be almost raring to go. Asides from the preseason rigors and getting players back up to speed, it has already assembled a squad to hit the ground running. In an alternate reality, financially compromised Barcelona—La Liga runner-up last time around—would be nowhere near prepared if the matches resumed shortly. Are you ‘pangry’? Pandemic anger is a real mental health concern
Are we out of the woods with Covid-19? Have we reached the endemic stage? Should we adopt the mindset that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is just a part of our lives now and carry on as usual? Many people are walking around with more questions than answers as new SARS-CoV-2 viral variants emerge and case counts continue to fluctuate. Without a definitive answer as to what the next phase of the pandemic will look like, mental fatigue has set in for many during this Covid-19 limbo, as has anxiety, depression and persistent anger. “It’s been well over two years since the start of the pandemic, and of course, people are frustrated and anxious,” says Mayo Clinic Health System psychiatrist Dr Patrick Bigaouette. “When Covid-19 case counts tick back up, people are naturally nervous about whether it’s OK to go to a movie, send their child to school, or the possibility of increased Covid-related public policies. “The recurrent feeling of anxiety can be mentally fatiguing.” Research has … [Read more...] about Are you ‘pangry’? Chinese builder Sunac may miss local bond payment in a first
- A + A HONG KONG (June 27): China's fourth-biggest developer may miss a local bond payment for its first time ever, pressuring an onshore credit market that has remained resilient amid a property debt crisis and record offshore defaults. Sunac Real Estate Group Co said in an exchange filing on Friday it likely would not be able to raise enough funds to make a 400 million yuan (US$60 million) payment due June 30 for a portion of the note principal along with related interest. The deadline is part of an instalment plan Sunac got approval for several months ago that extended full repayment of the four billion yuan security by 18 months. A separate note maturing next year fell 15% on Monday while some due in 2025 closed at record lows, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. China's US$12.3 trillion local bond market has so far held up relatively well despite a cash crunch in the property sector sparked by a government crackdown on excessive leverage and housing … [Read more...] about Chinese builder Sunac may miss local bond payment in a first
S&P revised Malaysia’s rating outlook to stable from negative on strong growth momentum, external position
- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): S&P Global Ratings has revised upward its rating outlook on Malaysia’s long term sovereign credit ratings to stable from negative, reflecting its expectation that the country’s steady growth momentum and strong external position will remain in place for the next two years. At the same time, it anticipates that the policymaking environment will be supportive of restoring fiscal settings to a firmer footing. “We revised the outlook to stable in recognition of Malaysia's consistently strong growth trend that is faster than sovereigns of similar income level. Though Malaysia's budget deficits remain high, we expect its growth dynamics to offset vulnerabilities associated with its weak fiscal settings. In addition, political commitment to resume fiscal consolidation post-pandemic is strong, in our view," S&P said in a statement on Monday (June 27). At the same time, it affirmed its 'A-' long-term and 'A-2' short-term foreign … [Read more...] about S&P revised Malaysia’s rating outlook to stable from negative on strong growth momentum, external position
I spent six weeks living in A24-world. Here’s what happened
What makes A24 a cultural powerhouse is not that it released a film last spring in which an inter-dimensional assassin impales himself on an Auditor of the Month trophy, inexplicably shaped like a certain sex toy, although it most certainly did. It’s not that most cinephiles would immediately guess A24 as the company who put out that film, Everything Everywhere All at Once , even if its logo didn’t appear before the credits, although they probably would. No, what makes A24 a steady, sturdy phenomenon is that it started selling $60 designer candle replicas of that unlikely trophy just after the movie’s early-June digital release. advertisement advertisement Whether enough fans purchase the item—a collaboration with Brooklyn-based design studio, Joya —to justify its overhead cost is incidental. Everything Everywhere is now A24’s biggest hit ever , its $89 million box-office haul rendering the digital release a victory lap. The very existence … [Read more...] about I spent six weeks living in A24-world. Here’s what happened

Behind The Scenes: Nhow London Brings An Eclectic Take On The City
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A riot of colours, irreverent nods towards the royal family and rainbow-hued hotel-room doors (inspired by Notting Hill’s houses) – nhow London harnesses all the joy and quirks of British culture. A short walk from Angel or Old Street tube stations, the hotel is found on the fringes of Shoreditch. Entering the lobby space from the urban sprawl is like peering into a kaleidoscope. The open-plan space has a warehouse feel, with its vast space and high ceilings. It is filled with mismatched groups of chairs and sofas, covered in House of Hackney fabrics, graphic printed rugs and oversized pop art adorning the walls. At its heart is a neon yellow bar, ideal for late-night cocktails, which merges into the all-day eaterie. The design by interior architects Project Orange has fun and optimism at its heart. Having opened just before the pandemic, its ‘reinvention’ of the modern hotel offers a ‘hyper-real’ vibe which feels … [Read more...] about Behind The Scenes: Nhow London Brings An Eclectic Take On The City
PBOC to keep policy supportive for China economy, Governor says
- A + A (June 27): The People’s Bank of China pledged to maintain a supportive monetary policy to aid the economy’s recovery from Covid outbreaks and lockdowns and other stresses. “The monetary policy will continue to be accommodative to support economic recovery in aggregate sense,” Governor Yi Gang said in an interview with state broadcaster China Global Television Network , according to a transcript released by the central bank on Monday. The central bank’s “high priorities” are to maintain stable prices and maximize employment, Yi said. It will also continue to focus on structural policies such as those supporting small businesses and green projects, he said. China’s “real interest rate is pretty low” after taking inflation into account, Yi said. The inflation outlook is stable, he said, with consumer prices rising 2.1% in May and producer prices increasing 6.4%. The PBOC has taken a modest approach to easing this year, as weak borrowing demand in the face … [Read more...] about PBOC to keep policy supportive for China economy, Governor says
