The Southern Poverty Law Center bankrupted the Ku Klux Klan and other hate groups through the power of the legal system—and so it might have come as a surprise when the organization recently unveiled its new logo, it was conspicuously lacking the scales of justice icon that had defined the organization for years. It was a change that no one on the project team took lightly—but the organization was committed to bold moves, and for good reason. “Historically, it’s been a law firm, it’s been a legal service for voting rights and civil rights and advocacy groups, but over time, it’s expanded into something that’s much more than that,” says Chris Mihal, SPLC’s director of creative. In 2022, the organization completed a new strategic framework focused on its four key offerings: law, education, policy, and programming, centered around the critical subjects of hate and extremism, children’s rights, economic justice, immigrant justice, LGBTQ rights, criminal justice reform, … [Read more...] about Why the SPLC’s new logo ditched its famous icon

New York holds top spot, London second in Z/Yen financial center survey
People are seen on Wall St. outside the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File photo LONDON – New York kept the top spot in the latest rankings of global financial centers from Z/Yen Group on Thursday, with London and Singapore also unchanged in second and third place. New York overtook London to head the table in September 2018 — two years after Britain voted to leave the European Union — but London has retained its second place ranking since then, despite some predicting it could take a heavy knock from Brexit. “New York retains a significant first position, and five other U.S. centers are in the top 10,” Z/Yen chairman Michael Mainelli said in a statement. Finance industry officials worried about London’s global reputation as a financial center after the Bank of England had to step in last September to buy government bonds to stop a rout in prices. Markets had been unnerved by a government announcement of unfunded tax cuts. … [Read more...] about New York holds top spot, London second in Z/Yen financial center survey
How to talk to your boss about working too much
When the pandemic hit and we all experienced a wave of uncertainty about how companies and jobs would fare in the fallout, workers buckled down and got things done. For many, that meant working longer hours. Remote employees worked an average of 2.5 hours longer per day in the U.S. and UK during the pandemic, according to a survey by cybersecurity platform NordLayer. And a 2021 study published in Nature Human Behavior found that remote workers are staying connected to work 10% longer than pre-pandemic. And the fallout can be serious. Research from Eagle Hill Consulting, LLC found that nearly half of employees are burned out from their work. A 2021 World Health Organization and International Labor Organization study found that long work hours (55 hours per week or more) contributed to more than three-quarters of a million deaths in 2016. Overwork is taking a toll mentally, physically, and creatively, says Sarah Deane, cofounder and CEO of MEvolution, a business … [Read more...] about How to talk to your boss about working too much

Unsung Heroes: The Players That Uplift The Entire Team’s Performance
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Ryan is a career marketer with operational excellence whose creative thinking solves business challenges. Football quarterbacks are the stars of the show for a good reason. But who would they be without the linemen? A hardly ever glorified position, their consistent performance in support of the quarterback is the difference between a good season and a Super Bowl. Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Vs 3: A Quick Comparison
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch 4 last week. It’s equal parts bold and familiar. If you are planning to buy a Samsung watch this year and have plenty of dollars to spend, get the Galaxy Watch 4. There are no “fire sale” Galaxy Watch 3 deals online at the time of writing, and the changes in the new watch are dramatic enough to make the older version a bad buy at anything close to its original price. So, what’s new, and is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 worth a purchase? Design The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 looks similar to the Galaxy Watch 4. Or, to be more specific, the Watch 4 Classic versions do. This time Samsung has merged its two watch lines into one family. The standard Galaxy Watch 4 watches, available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, are more like successors to the Galaxy Watch Active 2. For some time now, economists have been speculating about the next recession, questioning whether 2023 will indeed be the year of the next economic downturn.
