Davis’ masterful skills are best showcased on their debut album, UNIVERSE , released June 24. “[The album] documents my age and how much I've grown on that aspect, but also how it correlates to how my tastes have changed, how my growth as a musician has changed and everything of that nature,” they say. President Ford’s Vail Winter White House Hits The Market For $13 Million
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While he was President, Gerald Ford was often mocked for alleged physical ineptitude. He acquired a reputation as a clumsy, likable and simple-minded everyman; an incident in 1975, when he tripped while exiting Air Force One in Austria, was famously and repeatedly parodied by Chevy Chase on Saturday Night Live , cementing Ford's image as a klutz. In fact, he was a lifelong athlete, a skilled football player who won two national championships while at the University of Michigan. Following his senior year, he turned down offers from the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers, instead taking a position as the boxing coach and assistant varsity football coach at Yale, while applying to Yale Law School. He loved to ski, so a vacation home in Vail, Colorado made sense. Built in 1967, this mountain chateau served as a favorite holiday retreat for President Gerald and First Lady Betty Ford. Now their winter holiday ski house … [Read more...] about President Ford’s Vail Winter White House Hits The Market For $13 Million
In Photos: Spacecraft Snaps Jaw-Dropping New Images Of Mercury’s Craters From Only 125 Miles Away
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A spacecraft has sent back beautiful new close-up images of the planet Mercury from just 125 miles/200 kilometers away. BepiColumbo—a joint mission by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)—flew past the closest planet to the Sun for the second time on June 23, 2022. As it did its three cameras were able to capture black-and-white images showing craters on the planet surface. However, the spacecraft closest approach was over the night-side of Mercury. During its close flyby BepiColumbo flew from the night-side to the day-side of the tiny planet, witnessing a sunrise over the planet’s crater-pocked surface. The timing was crucial for the quality of photography it was able to capture because that division between light and dark—the terminator—threw huge shadows across the dramatic terrain. BepiColumbo will orbit Mercury from late 2025 to help planetary scientists figure … [Read more...] about In Photos: Spacecraft Snaps Jaw-Dropping New Images Of Mercury’s Craters From Only 125 Miles Away
Opinion: The aftershocks of America’s abortion earthquake will be felt for decades
(CNN) Following the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, CNN Opinion asked a group of contributors to weigh in on the cultural, legal and political ramifications of this monumental legal opinion undoing nearly 50 years of federal abortion protection. The views expressed in these commentaries are those of the authors. SE Cupp: What politicians get wrong about the abortion debate I'm deeply worried for our country. Read More No matter where you stand on the issue -- I'm pro-life but do not support a ban on abortions -- this ruling represents a seismic shift in American life as most of us knew it. I'm 43, and Roe is older than I am. There are more people alive today who have never known an America without Roe than there are people who lived without it. Stripping away what many women have only known as a right for nearly 50 years, without putting anything in its place is dangerous. Criminalizing … [Read more...] about Opinion: The aftershocks of America’s abortion earthquake will be felt for decades
LongTail Rally: 30 Supercars, 2,000 Miles, 8 Days Of Thrill, Infinite Chill
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Spending 8 days and 2,000 miles driving non-stop is either your worst nightmare or your personal state of nirvana (we’re talking “release of the soul from karmic bondage” nirvana here). Achieving that state of mind on the open highway may be putting a bit too much pressure on the road trip concept, but that didn’t stop the LongTail Rally organizers from trying. With a route that started in Laguna Beach, ended in Las Vegas, and visited Palm Springs, Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Yosemite and Death Valley in between, I feared a triathlon-like experience after glancing at the LongTail Rally itinerary. But rally organizer Mike Knapp quickly allayed those fears. “We rarely hit the road before 11 am, and we’re always at our next night’s accommodations by 5 pm.” If you’re a car rally noob (like me), you may not know this, but most exotic car rallies are not run this way. Instead of reveling in engaging roads … [Read more...] about LongTail Rally: 30 Supercars, 2,000 Miles, 8 Days Of Thrill, Infinite Chill
Songbirds Perceive Color In Categories Like People Do
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Birds perceive colors in categories just like humans do: a recent study shows that zebra finches perceive red or orange, even when reality is a shade somewhere in between A female zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata) with colored discs that she had been trained to flip ... (Credit: Ryan Huang / Terra Communications, LLC) Ryan Huang / Terracommunications, LLC When you look at a rainbow, do you see bands of specific colors, or do you see a continuum of colors? Most people see distinct bands of colors, despite the fact that the rainbow itself is a continuum across the entire visible spectrum of color. Why do we see what isn’t there? Considering the amount of information reaching our sensory organs every second, it could easily become overwhelming if we … [Read more...] about Songbirds Perceive Color In Categories Like People Do
Tax Information Reporting On Digital Assets Steps Into The Spotlight
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The looming prospect of compliance with the reporting requirements in section 6050I has been a problem for the digital asset industry since the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (P.L. 117-58) last November. The requirements pose procedural obstacles and privacy concerns for taxpayers, but the government has an interest in ensuring compliance with the tax laws. The revised version of section 6050I requires taxpayers engaged in a trade or business to file an information return when they receive $10,000 or more in digital assets in one transaction or two or more related transactions in the course of that trade or business. The information required is the name, address, and tax identification number of the person from whom the assets were received; the amount of the assets; and the date and nature of the transaction. The provision was originally designed for cash transactions. The brief push for … [Read more...] about Tax Information Reporting On Digital Assets Steps Into The Spotlight
Why Are Robin Eggs Blue?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Eggshell pigments and color patterns reveal a lot about where a bird nests and the sorts of evolutionary challenges it faces before it even hatches Robin’s egg blue: eggs of the American robin (Turdus migratorius). Blue-green eggshell pigments ... [+] protect the embryo from sunlight, which can be adaptive as long as light levels are low enough not to heat up the eggs. (Credit: Daniel Marquard / Creative Commons.) Daniel Marquard / Creative Commons When I was teaching ornithology, there were several questions that my students would invariably ask at some point during the academic term. One was why are robin eggs blue? Even Charles Darwin wondered about the evolutionary reasons that birds' eggshells range in color from white to dark greenish-blue. Since this is such a simple and obvious question to ponder, you'd think someone would have figured out the reason long ago. And indeed, there are a number of … [Read more...] about Why Are Robin Eggs Blue?
