Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In healthcare, as in life, people devote a lot of time and attention to the way things should be. They’d be better off focusing on what actually could be. As an example, 57% to 70% of American voters believe our nation “should” adopt a single-payer healthcare system like Medicare For All. Likewise, public health advocates insist that more of the nation’s $4 trillion healthcare budget “should” be spent on combating the social determinants of health: things like housing insecurity, low-wage jobs and other socioeconomic stresses. Neither of these ideas will happen, nor will dozens of positive healthcare solutions that “should” happen. When the things that should happen don’t, there’s always a reason. In healthcare, the biggest roadblock to change is what I call the conglomerate of monopolies , which includes hospitals , drug companies , private-equity-staked physicians and commercial health insurers . Majority Of Voters Believe Buttigieg’s Response To Toxic Train Derailment Was ‘Fair’ Or ‘Poor’: POLL
More voters appear to be dissatisfied than content with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s response to an Ohio train derailment that exposed a small town to toxic chemicals in early February, according to a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released Friday. A Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, on Feb. 3 and a controlled burn conducted on Feb. 6 to alleviate pressure within the cars released harmful chemicals including vinyl chloride into the environment. Buttigieg caught flack for failing to respond to the derailment until ten days later, and for not visiting the derailment site until three weeks after the initial crash. (RELATED: ‘Superman’s Not Coming’: Ohioans Brace For Tough Road Ahead After Toxic Train Derailment) Thirty-one percent of polled voters said that Buttigieg’s response to the derailment was “poor,” while 30% said that it was “fair,” according to the results. What Crypto Investors Need To Know About NFT Tax Changes
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Crypto continues to have a rocky 2023, with one of the most recent announcements being a pending lawsuit against Coinbase by the Securities and Exchange Commission. While the SEC continues to hammer on virtually every crypto-native organization or service provider, there are other issues that investors need to keep in mind. Taxes are a part of any business conversation, and rarely a fun one to discuss. Enjoyable or not, however, taxes are an important topic for any investment or business decision; crypto taxes and tax treatment continue to provide fertile ground for debate, discourse, and wide ranging conversation. Paris 2024: Will Electric Air Taxis Be Ready For Summer Olympics?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The company that operates Paris’ airports insists that plans are moving ahead to launch an air taxi service for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Solène Le Bris of Groupe ADP, which manages Charles De Gaulle and Orly airports, confirmed the timeline while speaking at an Amsterdam drone conference, according to The Guardian. “We are trying to launch the first e-VTOL [vertical takeoff and landing] pre-commercial service in the world: that’s our ambition,” she said. The air taxis are designed by a company called VoloCity . The first of five “vertiports” opened last year Cergy-Pontoise to help test the service. Eventually, commercial passengers will be able to board and disembark from the air taxis at these points. While the service may potentially be revolutionary, its practical impact will likely be limited. The air taxis only have room for the pilot and one passenger. As such, the number of tickets … [Read more...] about Paris 2024: Will Electric Air Taxis Be Ready For Summer Olympics?
Getting Your Child Certified In Scuba Diving While On Vacation
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you’re wondering about getting your child certified in scuba diving, you might consider doing it while on vacation. There are several reasons why. 1. Part of the certification process involves online coursework (aka homework), and it’s easier to get buy-in from a kid when the payoff is scuba diving in the Caribbean with a chance of seeing turtles, rays and a plethora of other fish. 2. The water is warmer in the Caribbean than other options in the U.S. (including the quarry in Pennsylvania, where many New Yorkers go for their open water dives). 3. Doing their open-water dives in a place brimming with marine life will get your child interested in making scuba diving a life-long activity. 4. It’s one-stop-shopping, which is easier for everyone. Once you decide that you’re going to get your child certified on vacation, the next question is where you should do it. While there are plenty of places in the … [Read more...] about Getting Your Child Certified In Scuba Diving While On Vacation
