A new political force has emerged that may help advance the economic and wealth-building status of African Americans. The Black Economic Alliance, an organization of leading African American entrepreneurs and executives, announced today that it has already raised $3.5 million to impact highly-competitive gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, and House races in states and districts, respectively, with sizable black populations and where such turnout during the midterm election could prove decisive. During a press briefing via conference call in which BLACK ENTERPRISE joined other members of the national media, the group also revealed endorsements for a group of Democratic gubernatorial candidates in heated, high-profile campaigns: Stacey Abrams, former Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives seeking to become chief executive of that state; Ben Jealous, a former NAACP CEO and tech financier running for the Maryland statehouse; and Richard Cordray, the Consumer Financial Protection … [Read more...] about New Black Political Force Raises $3.5 Million, Prepares for Midterm Election Battles

Democrat Danny O’Connor has built a slim lead with half of the precincts counted in Ohio's special House election, but Republican Troy Balderson is still within striking distance as Republicans seek to stave off a demoralizing defeat just three months before the midterm elections. O’Connor had 52 percent of the vote to Balderson’s 47 percent with just over 50 percent of precincts counted in a district that last went Democratic nearly four decades ago. The GOP cavalry dashed in to pull Balderson across the finish line in the special election, spending more than $5 million on TV ads and dispatched top surrogates to the 12th District outside Columbus to rally the base.
