ALL-WEST ENDS AVERY GRENIER 6-1, 180 pounds, Sr., Livonia Churchill Grenier had an outstanding senior season in all three phases of the game. He had 49 receptions for 787 yards and eight touchdowns while intercepting seven passes from his secondary position to help Churchill earn a state playoff appearance. “Avery’s been outstanding for us,” coach Bill DeFillippo said. “He is a very versatile playmaker in all three phases. He was our leading receiver, led our team with seven interceptions and was also our punt returner.” BRENDAN MURPHY 6-1, 225, Sr., Saline Murphy had a big senior season, grabbing three touchdown passes in a Division 1 regional final win over East Kentwood. Mick McCabe Special to the Detroit Free Press Published 2:01 PM EDT Oct 28, 2018 The football state playoffs are underway so it must be time for Dearborn Fordson and Detroit Cass Tech to play their annual Here We Go Again game. “It was definitely almost Not Here We Go Again,” said Fordson coach Walker Zaban. Fordson had to erase a 17-3 halftime deficit to escape the first round with a 24-17 victory over Grosse Pointe South in a Division 1 district semifinal game. “I thought South did an excellent job overall,” Zaban said. “Their kids were well-prepared. They did a better job than us coaching-wise. In July, SOS and Mrs. SOS were in Costa Rica to attend the wedding of former U-D Jesuit star Tim Storch. SOS won the dance competition in the over-65 division, but former Michigan and New England Patriots punter Zoltan Mesko was amazing and the overall winner. Then it was off to a Baltic cruise where SOS visited the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia and Denmark. Just when SOS thought he was finished with his international travels he wound up in another foreign land — Toledo... Ohio.
