I want to bring different audiences and for them to have communal experiences in a shared space.” He clarifies: “This is what museums do best.” As director and chief executive of the Design Museum in London, a position he’s held since 2019, he’s in a prime spot to achieve this. I’m meeting Marlow at the museum west of the city in Kensington, housed in the former Grade II* listed Commonwealth Institute. A curious building with its place in time, it opened in 1962 to inform and educate about the Commonwealth of Nations. And they celebrated with a special St. Patrick's Day record release show this past Friday at Pappy and Harriets, in the Southern California desert (Pioneertown to be specific). As the sisters explained when they jumped on a recent Zoom with Sage Bava and I, playing under the stars in the desert fulfills a longtime dream for them. And like all their dreams these days, they are well positioned to appreciate success with renewed enthusiasm and excitement. Aly & AJ are a true music success story. Years after taking an extended hiatus and not being sure if they would continue to do music, they are enjoying a full renaissance, both artistically and commercially.
