Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you’re wondering about getting your child certified in scuba diving, you might consider doing it while on vacation. There are several reasons why. 1. Part of the certification process involves online coursework (aka homework), and it’s easier to get buy-in from a kid when the payoff is scuba diving in the Caribbean with a chance of seeing turtles, rays and a plethora of other fish. 2. The water is warmer in the Caribbean than other options in the U.S. (including the quarry in Pennsylvania, where many New Yorkers go for their open water dives). 3. Doing their open-water dives in a place brimming with marine life will get your child interested in making scuba diving a life-long activity. 4. It’s one-stop-shopping, which is easier for everyone. Once you decide that you’re going to get your child certified on vacation, the next question is where you should do it. While there are plenty of places in the … [Read more...] about Getting Your Child Certified In Scuba Diving While On Vacation

A Quantum Leap In Timing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Paul is President of Quantum Computing at ColdQuanta , where he leads the team building the world’s most useful quantum computer. So much of modern life relies on GPS that it has been estimated that an outage would cost the U.S. economy over $1 billion per day. Such an outage isn’t too far-fetched. We have seen recent examples of GPS being blocked in conflict zones, spoofed for nefarious purposes and disrupted by solar storms. At its heart, GPS is a timing system. To understand how timing relates to navigation, and how quantum technology will enable us to overcome the limitations of GPS, we need to go back in history a few hundred years. Dava Sobel’s book Longitude recounts the tale of John Harrison’s mechanical clock that revolutionized maritime navigation and global trade. In the same way that Harrison’s clock accelerated economic growth through the 18th and 19th centuries, optical clocks are … [Read more...] about A Quantum Leap In Timing
The World Is About To Get Close-Up HD Images Of Jupiter
NASA’s Juno spacecraft is about to make an extremely close flyby of Jupiter in December, snapping pictures along the way. Juno will perform its next science flyby of Jupiter on Dec. 11, snapping numerous pictures with its JunoCam imager. Juno’s mission is to understand how Jupiter formed and how it influenced the development of the rest of the solar system “Juno exited safe mode as expected, is healthy and is responding to all our commands,” Rick Nybakken, Juno project manager from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a press statement . “We anticipate we will be turning on the instruments in early November to get ready for our December flyby.” The spacecraft will use nine different scientific instruments to investigate the existence of a solid planetary core, map Jupiter’s intense magnetic fields, measure the amount of water and ammonia in the deep atmosphere, and observe the planet’s auroras. Juno’s camera will take super high-definition images, but will probably only … [Read more...] about The World Is About To Get Close-Up HD Images Of Jupiter
BTS’ Jimin Is Headed For A Historic Debut With Solo EP ‘Face’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin For years, it was major news every time a South Korean musical act reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200, as very few names from that part of the world had managed to succeed in such a manner. Now, it’s not odd to see a debut from a K-pop band in the highest reaches of the tally every few weeks…but the same can’t be said for soloists. Whenever a solo star from that part of the world makes it to the uppermost tier on the Billboard 200 in America, it’s very much worthy of noting. BTS member Jimin is expected to make history with the release of his debut solo project, titled Face . It looks like the EP is going to make a huge opening on the Billboard charts in a few days, possibly debuting inside the top 10 on the Billboard 200–the chart company's weekly ranking of the most-consumed EPs and albums in the U.S. HitsDailyDouble suggests that Face could open as high as No. 3. The EP will likely start off behind … [Read more...] about BTS’ Jimin Is Headed For A Historic Debut With Solo EP ‘Face’
Polymath Of Rap, IDK, Applies Both Sides Of His Brain
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin IDK’s creative acumen, his savvy for business, and his thoughtful airs pierce. His inner seas are oceans of song, direction, and rhymes of personal revolution. IDK is a polymath. He performs as musician and manager alike, handling the economics of his artistry, negotiating his deals firsthand. It’s as unusual as it is laudable and difficult. He’s collaborated with The Neighborhood, Saba, KAYTRANADA, Domo Genesis, Young Thug, A$AP Ferg, Denzel Curry , and Bas. Dancing with his right brain, he turns silence into capturing sound. Balancing his left brain, he confers with the powers of bureaucracy, law, and record labels. “Most artists that I meet are focused on the right brain. They tend to struggle a lot. They feel restricted. And there's a tendency to rely on their team or their manager. It’s good to have people like that, but dependence could affect your livelihood because you can't control anyone else,” said IDK. … [Read more...] about Polymath Of Rap, IDK, Applies Both Sides Of His Brain
Nvidia Goes All In On Omniverse At GTC 2023
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Nvidia held its GTC 2023 event for developers this past week, with a range of announcements in quantum computing, the metaverse, large language models, robotics, automotive and more. My eyes especially lit up for Nvidia's Omniverse, a platform at the intersection of enterprise AI and digital infrastructure. I believe that this year’s GTC was one of Nvidia's greatest yet, and that we are witnessing Nvidia articulate its strategic position, which is somewhere between cloud service providers and SaaS providers. While Nvidia unveiled many great pieces of technology at the event, here I want to offer some of my biggest takeaways about Omniverse, which promises to unify and streamline infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) functions. The power of Nvidia Omniverse One of the biggest announcements at GTC 2023 is that the Isaac Sim digital twin application within Nvidia's Omniverse Cloud … [Read more...] about Nvidia Goes All In On Omniverse At GTC 2023
