Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin 2022 has not been kind to investors. Virtually every segment of the market has fallen in value. Even investment grade bonds, which is historically a haven for conservative investors, has plummeted by over 12% as of this writing. It’s easy to get caught up in your emotions during a tough market and weak economy. However, it may be helpful to keep in mind that Bear Markets and recessions are not an anomaly. They are part of the economic cycle. Contrary to what the doomsayers and talking heads are claiming on financial news channels, I am confident in saying that eventually the economy will improve and the market will rebound. The question is what are some practical action items for investors as we approach year-end? (Hint: It’s not checking your account balance more frequently!). Fixating on short-term performance is not constructive. Instead, I have outlined below some pragmatic areas worth exploring to make … [Read more...] about 2022 Year-End Financial Checklist

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I’ve spent the last few weeks playing what is essentially another full playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. A long time ago, I left one of my PC Vs, an experimental build that was going to be focused on going in guns blazing, stuck at level 15 or so. My goal was to come back to her later once the game had been more fixed and patched with QoL changes added. Now with the game’s recent resurgence, I figured this was as good a time as any to return to her, and 30 hours and 35 more levels later, I have a maxed V who needs to go meet Hanako at Embers. Previously, I’ve written up compilations of patch notes with the laundry lists of changes that have been made to the game in the last two years, but actually playing through it is a different story. Here’s what I’ve actually noticed has changed since my first playthroughs. And it’s a good amount. Performance, Stability, Bugs – While I didn’t encounter any bugs that fully broke my … [Read more...] about ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Re-Review: Two Years Later, What’s Changed?

Photo by Antara Foto/Ari Bowo Sucipto/Reuters - A + A JAKARTA (Oct 2): At least 129 people were killed and around 180 injured at a football match in Indonesia after panicked fans were trampled and crushed trying to flee during a riot, police said on Sunday, in what appeared to be one of the world's worst stadium disasters. When supporters of the losing home team invaded the pitch in East Java province on Saturday night to express their frustration, officers fired tear gas in an attempt to control the situation, triggering a stampede and cases of suffocation, East Java police chief Nico Afinta told reporters. "It had gotten anarchic. They started attacking officers. They damaged cars," Nico said, adding that the crush occurred when fans fled for an exit gate. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Those who consider themselves self-employed can have many working definitions of what that means for their careers. For some, it could simply serve as a tool to bridge either a new job or retirement, while for others, it’s a way of life that becomes both an identity and a career. In either scenario, self-employment also provides signs of reduced depression and increased wealth among workers, when compared to regular employees. But these facts also tend to benefit more privileged groups , such as those who are male, white and generally well off to begin with. How, then, can the benefits of self-employment reach a wider audience? It’s an important question, one that has become more vital in the current economy. For instance, according to a pair of new studies highlighted by The New York Post , the number of self-employed mothers with children younger than 6 years old saw a significant increase when compared to rates … [Read more...] about How To Set Your Solopreneur Goals

More experienced workers are better suited for some roles, but older workers, too, should not worry much about who they report to. (Representational image: LinkedIn Sales Solutions via Unsplash) I have been observing of late that hiring younger folks in most workplaces, and for most roles, is becoming the norm. As a 30-something-year-old, I have started to feel like a geriatric (except when I remind myself there is much of life ahead of me). Thinking deeper, I know why I feel this way; my interactions are mostly with youngsters and not so much with older people at work. While I bring in the experience, they bring in the ‘hustle’ and we live happily together. But my case is the exception. Workplaces today are missing out on a vast amount of competence and thought innovation by not hiring seasoned professionals above 45 or 50 years of age. While this is the norm at most startups (in the early stages, to be more specific), it also holds true for many other industries. The only … [Read more...] about Why workplaces need experience capital
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Rosie Wolf Williams, Next Avenue My mother told me many times over the years that she had a will, and I believed her. When she passed away, we discovered that her will was 40 years old — and completely useless. To start, she had never signed the copy we found, and the man named to be executor had died a decade before she did. Grandchildren born after she wrote the will were not mentioned, and items left to some people had long ago been passed on to others. Such problems are not uncommon, because many older adults and their children don't want to talk about death. Of course, you could simply ask your parents or others about their wishes, but how do you make sure the transition after they have died is smooth, without sounding harsh or greedy? Who Needs a Will? "The question in so many minds is, what happens if my parent dies without a will? The short answer is, it depends," says Rebecca Goldfarb, … [Read more...] about Mom, Do You Have A Will?

Sachin Khapare, 42, a pharmaceutical company representative based in Mumbai, was planning to upgrade from his 15-year Splendor Plus motorcycle to a brand new electric bike. But instead of going for the Revolt-branded e-bike for Rs 155,000, the only option at that time, he decided to keep his existing bike and get the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) replaced with an electric vehicle powertrain kit costing Rs. 105,000 (including registration fees and a Goods and Services Tax rate of 18%). “I was actually looking for an electric bike but had very limited options. Also, since the maintenance costs of my Splendor Plus is pretty low, I didn’t want to part with it. So getting it retrofitted with an EV kit by a recognised player was the best way out. The whole process of powertrain conversion took just 7 days and I now feel elated that I can use my Splendor without emitting any Co2 and traverse up to 125kms in a single charge,” Khapare told Moneycontrol. While the electrification of … [Read more...] about EV powertrain retrofitment market gains traction with influx of organised players
