Ewan McGregor is back for a six-episode "Star Wars" limited series, set in between the events of the prequel trilogy and the original "Star Wars" LOS ANGELES - When Ewan McGregor first played a lightsaber-wielding Jedi hero in the much-maligned "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, he didn't feel much love from the fans. Initial audience excitement about returning to a galaxy far, far away in 1999's "The Phantom Menace" was quickly doused by the prequels' corny dialogue, arcane inter-galactic politics and Jar Jar Binks. But as he steps back into his role for Disney+ series "Obi-Wan Kenobi," out next Friday, McGregor says he has been pleasantly surprised by a major re-evaluation of the prequels, particularly among younger viewers. "One of the difficult things about being in the prequels was that when they came out, they were not seemingly well received," McGregor told a virtual press conference Thursday. Play Out Apparel Creates A Community For LBGTQ+ To Express Themselves Through Gender-Equal Clothing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Although diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) have been in practice for the past few decades, it’s been under the spotlight for the past two years. Along with DEI efforts, companies are starting to take the LGBTQ+ communities seriously to create a positive, inclusive culture for all employees. Developing a culture where everyone feels acknowledged goes beyond tolerance; it’s about fully accepting people for who they are regardless of status and affiliations. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, the term genderqueer became popular among social activists. It defines a person who does not subscribe to conventional gender distinctions. It has led the way for other terms like nonbinary to become mainstream. Over the past decade, more brands have been … [Read more...] about Play Out Apparel Creates A Community For LBGTQ+ To Express Themselves Through Gender-Equal Clothing

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline One of Edgar Degas’ iconic “Little Dancer” sculptures broke the artist’s auction record Thursday when it sold for $41.6 million from the collection of the late Anne Bass, the former wife of an oil billionaire who championed American ballet. Key Facts “La Petite Danseuse de quatorze ans,” or “Little Dancer of fourteen years,” is a bronze cast of the only sculpture that Degas ever exhibited in his lifetime, based on a young ballerina named Marie van Goethem who was studying ballet in Paris. Roundup: Chinese-invested enterprises in South Africa hold job fair to pursue localized development
JOHANNESBURG, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of job seekers on Thursday swarmed into the Gallagher Convention Center in Johannesburg, where Chinese-invested enterprises in South Africa threw a job fair in hopes of hiring local talent for localized development. Long queues of people waited to submit their CVs in front of the stands of their preferred companies. To prevent chaos, organizers had to limit admissions due to the sheer number of participants. Chinese Ambassador Chen Xiaodong said the job Fair is a concrete initiative and effort to implement agreements between the leaders of the two countries. It not only creates jobs for South Africans but also provides an opportunity for Chinese enterprises to hire local talent and pursue localized development. "Today, over 100 Chinese-invested enterprises pledge to provide 20,000 jobs directly for South Africans in the next three years. Their businesses cover infrastructure, communications, mining, automobile, agriculture and many … [Read more...] about Roundup: Chinese-invested enterprises in South Africa hold job fair to pursue localized development
Secondhand Could Supplant Fast Fashion in a Decade, ThredUp & The RealReal Are Leading the Way
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Two major players have emerged in the fashion resale market, ThredUp and The RealReal thredup.com, therealreal.com My wife and I recently drove from Minneapolis to Chicago to visit our youngest daughter, who is in PR and social media marketing, she is also a life-long fashionista. So besides hitting a few of Chicago’s many terrific eateries, we indulged in some retail therapy; primarily in the trendy Wicker Park neighborhood. For those not familiar with this area, it’s a magnet for GenY professionals, and has a rich mix of upscale indie retailers, digital native brands, and an unexpectedly large offering of resale and consignment stores. It became clear to me that much of what I’d been reading about the ‘second hand economy’ was alive and thriving here. Also, the notion that this segment was a one-note play on the rummage or thrift store of the past was quickly negated. A high level of merchandising and creative … [Read more...] about Secondhand Could Supplant Fast Fashion in a Decade, ThredUp & The RealReal Are Leading the Way
