How to License an Idea to More Than One Company

September 4, 2015 by www.inc.com

Product ideas with huge market potential are few and far between. That doesn't stop inventors from dreaming about them though. How could it? What if the market is so big, we wonder, that not one but two companies will want to license our idea from us? What could be better! In reality, this scenario doesn't play out very often. But it is possible. Here's what you need to know to make it happen. 1. Accept that most licensees will want an exclusive. Why wouldn't they? Companies are always seeking to differentiate themselves from their competition. Embracing open innovation is an excellent way of doing that. So why, after committing to manufacture, market, and distribute your idea, would your licensee then agree to compete for market share? Your licensee is making a major investment. That's why licensing is such a great business model for independent inventors. You're tapping into your licensee's power. However, the fact that most companies will ask you for an exclusive does … [Read more...] about How to License an Idea to More Than One Company

Pullback likely as sentiment turns extremely bearish. These 19 stocks are bargain buys now

June 25, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

The market seems to have seen extreme bearishness after the recent fall way below even its March lows, indicating the Nifty50 index moved near the oversold territory, experts said. A rising concern over inflation and fears of a recession because of rapid tightening of monetary policies weighed on the sentiment. The March 2022 low was 15,671. The Nifty50 plunged nearly 18 percent from its record high of 18,604 on June 19 last year, to 15,183 levels on June 17 this year. Even from its June high (current month), it lost nearly 10 percent, followed by recent recovery of 3.4 percent from 15,183. ICICI Direct highlighted four factors that clearly indicated that we are in an oversold territory, indicating more than 9 percent recovery from the recent lows. Only around 15 percent stocks traded above 200 day moving average in the recent fall, which means around 85 percent stocks fell below 200 DMAs, which clearly signifies extreme pessimism in the market. Technical experts usually … [Read more...] about Pullback likely as sentiment turns extremely bearish. These 19 stocks are bargain buys now

How Being Reasonable Helps Protect Your Great Idea

February 12, 2016 by www.inc.com

There's an article in the February issue of this magazine that so perfectly captures why I believe it is crucial not to give anyone reason to work around you, I had to write about it. Every inventor's worst fear is having his idea stolen from him. I don't think ideas are stolen very often, actually. I do think they're worked around . That distinction is important. Let me explain. As the author of the article effectively clarifies, there's a significant difference between simply having an idea and actually executing on that idea. "It's not the idea others covet so much as what you make of it. An idea is a spark. No one wants your spark. They want your flame," Inc. editor-at-large David Whitford writes. I agree. If you want your flame to stay yours, or at least profit from it, adopting the right attitude is a must. I've experienced more or less the exact scenario the article describes, which is this: You come up with a great idea. You work hard to develop it. And just when … [Read more...] about How Being Reasonable Helps Protect Your Great Idea

Elon Musk Reveals His Innovation Equation. It’s an Easy Way to Gauge If a Business Idea Is Viable

March 29, 2022 by www.inc.com

Elon Musk is revered as one of history's greatest innovators . But what makes him so brilliant is that his genius is rooted not in an abstract complexity, but straightforward simplicity. It's this ability that enables him to seemingly turn any wild idea he pursues into a wildly successful business. But that's because he doesn't pursue every idea or innovation that comes to mind. Rather, he fields them using his simple "innovation equation" to determine if they are indeed worth pursuing. It's a crucial step many entrepreneurs overlook, leading them into a blind pursuit of something that might be great, but not great for them. In an interview with Lex Fridman , an A.I. researcher at MIT, Musk calls Dan Carlin's Hardcore History the "greatest podcast ever." He goes on to discuss the pursuit of innovation, and in doing so he reveals the core of his decision-making process and his innovation equation. According to Musk, "What matters is the pace of innovation, … [Read more...] about Elon Musk Reveals His Innovation Equation. It’s an Easy Way to Gauge If a Business Idea Is Viable

Adam Grant’s 7 Commandments for Successful Hybrid Work

June 16, 2022 by www.inc.com

As much as the likes of Elon Musk may argue otherwise , the data is clear -- hybrid work is not only strongly favored by the vast majority of office-based employees , it also improves work-life balance, retention, and engagement without harming performance. In short, as loud as some old-school executives might howl, hybrid work is here to stay. But just because the data-backed case for hybrid work is open and shut, that doesn't mean implementing it effectively is easy. In the latest edition of his WorkLife podcast , star Wharton professor and best-selling author Adam Grant talks with two experts in remote work -- Stanford economist Nick Bloom and Harvard Business School professor Tsedal Neeley -- to uncover what's required to create a successful hybrid work environment. The trio of world-class experts lay out seven essential rules every leader should follow when designing and rolling out a hybrid work plan for their team. 1. Thou shalt coordinate. … [Read more...] about Adam Grant’s 7 Commandments for Successful Hybrid Work

How Crystal Cruises Pulled Off Its Massive Expansion

July 23, 2015 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This week’s jaw dropping announcement by Crystal Cruises that in one fell swoop it is expanding into river cruising, offering a yacht product, operating its own private jet tours and selling 144 multi-million dollar residences aboard three new build cruise ships was part of a vision President and CEO Edie Rodriguez had in mind when she joined the line in October 2013. However, it wasn’t until this May, when the company was acquired by Genting Hong Kong , the dream began to take hold. She tells Forbes.com, more significant initiatives will be unveiled in the next six months. For industry observers, joining Crystal may have seemed a surprising move for Rodriguez, even if it was for the top job. A 34-year industry veteran, who started as a travel agent, she served in senior leadership positions at Carnival Corporation’s Carnival Cruise Lines, Cunard and Seabourn, as well as most recently senior vice president of sales and … [Read more...] about How Crystal Cruises Pulled Off Its Massive Expansion
