Lapses of reason can happen even with the soundest systems and highest standards of rectitude. However, if, and when, they do happen, an opportunity to re-examine the standards and practices or S&P process presents itself. (Representational Image) Broadcast networks have been in the crosshairs of the moral, and even the actual, police for decades, for the alleged crime of airing content which offends people’s sensibilities, for legal, moral, religious, or a sheaf of other reasons. This vulnerability can impose serious costs upon a broadcaster. In India, for instance, content that falls foul of the code prescribed under the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994, could in extremis result in a broadcast channel losing its licence. As early as the 1950s, broadcaster networks in the United States, recognising the perils of airing offensive content, started putting in place a system of checks and balances to catch offensive content before it was aired. Since then, Broadcast … [Read more...] about Storyboard18 | Layer’r Shot debacle: Industry bodies should push for S&P compliance, in letter and spirit

Policy Talk | Startups need to define their vision as an industry
Yatish Rajawat – What was your objective in writing the book and what do you think is its impact? Harish Mehta - I’ll go back to say, 3 years, when I was reading books of RBI governors, IAS officers, politicians, etc. I have been involved with NASSCOM from the beginning and have seen how NASSCOM and the IT industry have evolved and how India has changed, I’m very proud of what everyone has done in this process. However, I didn’t see any of those books giving any credit to our industry - NASSCOM is not even listed anywhere, leave alone its contribution. Like Dr. Sumant Rao Bhosre used to say, 1000 years of the downward spiral of India was arrested by the IT industry of India. NASSCOM was the sutradhar driving it. So that is what I used as a theme in my book. We have put our … [Read more...] about Policy Talk | Startups need to define their vision as an industry

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline A documentary film crew captured former Vice President Mike Pence’s somewhat opaque reaction (“Excellent,” he says, but with restraint) to seeing a draft Congressional resolution calling for him to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office in the days after the January 6 riot at the Capitol, according to a clip from the documentary CNN aired Thursday.
