February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin T he legacy of LeBron James has never been in question, yet the Los Angeles Lakers superstar has managed to pull off another unparalleled accomplishment. On Tuesday, James scored 38 points in a 133-130 defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer . The record of 37,387 points stood for nearly 40 years, and there are now only seven other players within 10,000 points. For James, it’s an exclamation point on a resume that includes 19 All-Star appearances, 18 All-NBA selections, four league MVP awards and four NBA championships. “To be able to be in the presence of such a legend and great as Kareem means so much to me; it’s very humbling,” said a teary-eyed James during a third-quarter stoppage to commemorate the milestone. “I would never ever in a million years dreamt this even better than what it is tonight, so, fuck man, thank you guys.” As dominant … [Read more...] about How LeBron James Became The NBA’s Top Scorer, Highest-Paid Player—And First Active Billionaire

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin FTSE 100 stocks Smurfit Kappa, DCC Group and Severn Trent all released fresh trading statements on Wednesday. Here are the key takeaways from their midweek updates. Smurfit Kappa Packaging supplier Smurfit Kappa grew revenues strongly in 2022 despite a fall in cardboard box demand. Revenues rose 27% last year to €12.8 billion even as box volumes dropped 2% year on year. Meanwhile, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 38% to €2.4 billion, helped by a jump in EBITDA margin to 18.4% from 16.8% in 2021. The solid performance encouraged the company to raise the full-year dividend 12% year on year, to 107.6 euro cents per share. Chief executive Tony Smurfit said that “the rate and pace of inflation clearly had a negative effect on the demand environment in 2022.” He added that “the partial reversal of the unsustainably high demand levels seen through the pandemic period” also … [Read more...] about FTSE 100 Round-Up: Smurfit Kappa, DCC, Severn Trent

Will TikTok Be Banned From The U.S.? Here’s Where It Stands.

February 7, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Pressure is mounting from Republicans and some Democrats in Congress to pass a national ban on TikTok, the social video app owned by Chinese company ByteDance which has already been banned on federal devices and some college campuses over privacy concerns. Key Facts TikTok has faced calls for bans from critics who fear China may use the platform to access the data of American users. Criticisms of the social platform intensified in the fall after reports revealed ByteDance repeatedly accessed U.S. user data and planned to use TikTok to track the location of specific American citizens ( including Forbes journalists ). ByteDance previously denied it had used TikTok to “target” journalists or public figures, but after an internal investigation revealed employees tracked journalists covering the company, it fired its chief internal auditor who led the team orchestrating the surveillance. … [Read more...] about Will TikTok Be Banned From The U.S.? American Dream Mall—Touted As Retail’s Future—Now Seems More Like A Nightmare For Its Owner

April 1, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Owners don’t typically tell a public audience that they wish their sparkling new $5 billion shopping center had burned to the ground. But then you’d need a heart of stone not to empathize with the sentiment behind Kurt Hagen’s startling words when he addressed local council leaders last month. The American Dream mega-mall, tipped as the future of retail in America, is in danger of costing owner Triple Five Group dear, as its New Jersey complex rapidly descends into the stuff of nightmares. As a result, Triple Five has put up nearly half the ongoing profits of two of North America’s largest malls – Mall of America, Minn. and West Edmonton Mall, Canada – in order to appease circling creditors. Yet the question at the heart of this multi-billion-dollar story is how a scheme, just a 30-minute ride from Manhattan, that embodies real estate's futuristic vision of mixing retail, leisure, entertainment and dining within one … [Read more...] about American Dream Mall—Touted As Retail’s Future—Now Seems More Like A Nightmare For Its Owner

Microdosing Mentors: Zenchronicity Helps Guide Psilocybin Therapy

February 7, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Overcoming obstinate trauma cycles, often formed early in life, is possible through unconventional means with psychedelics like psilocybin. But psilocybin mushroom microdoses won’t magically solve a mental health issue when taken by a person who isn’t informed on how to heal. Furthermore, experiences from a microdose and a trip are lightyears apart, thus highlighting the need for a trained mentor when navigating psilocybin-assisted healing. Sisters Megan and Nicole Michelena are Microdose Institute-certified mental health experts specializing in psychedelic medicine. They are the founders of Denver, Colorado-based Zenchronicity , a microdose mentorship program that supports trauma healing with the help of psilocybin. Using 12 strains of psilocybin, with 12-week programs focusing on either group or one-on-one sessions, the Michelena sisters might be onto something.
