Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After I was pregnant, I might never have returned to drinking if the zero-proof scene had been anywhere near as robust as it is today. Back then, even at very nice restaurants, nothing that paired well with food but was sans-alcohol was available, so I always wound up with sparkling water. These days, there are new entries into the NA space pretty much daily, and you can find satisfying versions of everything from beer to a Negroni (I’m looking at you St. Agrestis). Zero-proof wines have made incredible strides over the past year, to the point where it’s not hard to find something to suit every palate and every course of your meal. So here are a few wines that I am enjoying this year. French Bloom Organic French Bubbly: This is the best zero-proof wine I have ever had. It’s no surprise, since it was developed by Maggie Frerejean-Taittinger, then the Director of the Michelin Guide, and model Constance Jablonski. Much … [Read more...] about Drink These Excellent Zero-Proof Wines For 2022 Holiday Celebrations
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Over the last few years, the martini has become as much an accessory as a handbag. (Though it never left my repertoire, that’s for sure.) Some like ‘em wet and others, like them brine-packed and finished with a perch of olives. But the presence of brine hasn’t been limited to ‘tinis. Recently, more and more pickle-packed beverages have entered the scene. This week, Yelp predicted the top trends of 2023, citing its searches and businesses that drew significant interest over the last two years. One of the top 10 trends listed is pickle-flavored products, including pickle martinis and pickle ice cream. Searches for pickle-flavored food were up 55%. “Pickles are a big ‘dill’ this year,” Yelp noted. In July, Mountain Dew rolled out a Dill Pickle-flavored version. Last week, Citadelle Gin released Vive le Cornichon, a liquid ode to the French cornichon. Vive le Cornichon is the first product out of the distillery, and … [Read more...] about Is The Newest Trend In Cocktails…pickles?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Back when I was pregnant with my daughters, who are both adolescents now, there were no zero-proof options in terms of wine. At least nothing that wasn’t just grape juice with some carbonation in a fancier bottle. But with the whole sober-curious movement driving innovation in the area, there are now literally dozens of options for alcohol-free wine, including a few that are very very good. Here’s a toast to moms and mothers-to-be who prefer something more complex than grape juice. Joyus ($25) This tart bubbly rosé is one of my favorites in the zero-proof space, redolent of blackberries and raspberries and very dry. It feels like a treat at the end of a long day, and it’s only 30 calories per glass. At about $25 a bottle, it’ll set you back around the same as a bottle of decent boozy sparkling wine. Hand on Heart ($15) I was despairing ever finding zero proof still wine that tastes like wine, but … [Read more...] about Gift Guide 2022: The Best Zero-Proof Wines For Mother’s Day
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There’s no escaping the ‘90s. New on-premise data shows that the espresso martini, the fluffy, coffee-spiked ‘tini of the early aughts, is back, now ranking as one of the top-selling beverages in the United States. The espresso martini has risen five places over the last year — the biggest jump made by a cocktail. The espresso martini dethroned the Manhattan, a drink that dropped four places in the last year. It is no longer one of the top-selling cocktails. As the lore goes, the drink was created by London bartender Dick Bradsell in the ‘80s, after a model asked for a drink that could ‘wake her up, then f— her up.’ It drinks like a foamy, adultified iced coffee, made with a shaken mix of vodka, sugar, espresso, and coffee liqueur. In 2020, the iconic drink experienced a resurgence. Nostalgia was comforting during the pandemic, and we saw ‘90s trends surface, whether it’s shows like Sex and the City and That ‘70s … [Read more...] about The Espresso Martini Is Now One Of The Top-Selling Cocktails In America

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As cybersecurity researchers detail a flaw that allowed them to unlock and start Honda and Nissan cars from anywhere in the world, border and immigration agencies are buying up tech to exploit weaknesses in vehicle security. For anyone with a Honda or Nissan car, it was possible for a hacker with a laptop to unlock or start their vehicles, locate them and raid personal data stored inside, cybersecurity researchers warned on Wednesday. They could even honk the horn. The hack highlighted a weakness in modern vehicles’ internet-connected systems, in particular those that track vehicle use and location, while hooking up to drivers’ cellphones and sucking in user data. They’re the same technologies that are regularly being exploited by federal law enforcement agencies, with immigration and border cops investing more than ever before on tools that extract masses of data — from passwords to location — from as many as 10,000 … [Read more...] about Cops Can Extract Data From 10,000 Different Car Models’ Infotainment Systems
