Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Harmful exposure to synthetic cannabinoids occurs less in those U.S. states where adult-use cannabis is legal, according to a new study that shows some potential public health benefits to legalizing adult-use cannabis. Researchers who published a study in the Journal of Clinical Toxicology last week found that adult-use cannabis legalization has benefits in reducing both motivations and harms associated with the use of synthetic cannabinoid products. They estimated that synthetic cannabinoids are used by 0.2–4% of the U.S. population, predominantly by young people. In order to analyze the impact of the use of synthetic cannabinoids on the U.S. population , researchers have associated 7,600 reports of exposure to synthetic cannabinoid poisoning taken from the National Poison Data System (NPDS) data from 2016 to 2019 with cannabis state cannabis laws. China shocks with rate cut as data show ‘alarming’ slowdown
- A + A HONG KONG/BEIJING (Aug 15): China's economic slowdown deepened in July due to a worsening property slump and continued coronavirus lockdowns, with an unexpected cut in interest rates unlikely to turn things around while those twin drags remain. Retail sales, industrial output, and investment all slowed and missed economists' estimates in July. The surveyed jobless rate for those aged 16-24 climbed to 19.9%, a record high and headache for the Communist Party as it gears up for a major congress in coming months that is expected to give President Xi Jinping a precedent-defying third term in power. "July's economic data is very alarming," said Raymond Yeung, Greater China economist at Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. "Authorities need to deliver a full-fledged support from property to Covid policy in order to arrest further economic decline." The data suggest a crisis of confidence among Chinese businesses and households, adding another … [Read more...] about China shocks with rate cut as data show ‘alarming’ slowdown
Stuttering China recovery weighs on Asian markets
Asian markets mostly rose Monday as investors cheered signs of cooling US inflation but optimism was dampened by data showing China’s economic recovery stuttering under Covid-19 restrictions and a slumping property sector. China’s central bank slashed key interest rates in a surprise move Monday as a raft of data showed weakness in the world’s second-largest economy. The figures showed China’s industrial production and retail sales growth for July came in lower than expected. Industrial production was up 3.8 percent year-on-year, but down from 3.9 percent in June and well below analysts’ forecasts. “The risk of stagflation in the world economy is rising, and the foundation for domestic economic recovery is not yet solid,” China’s National Bureau of Statistics warned. Beijing’s rigid adherence to a zero-Covid strategy has held back economic recovery as snap lockdowns and long quarantines batter business activity and a recovery in consumption. “July’s economic data is … [Read more...] about Stuttering China recovery weighs on Asian markets

Key Facts In an official statement , the Chinese military’s eastern theater command said it has organized a combat readiness patrol and exercises in the “sea and airspace around Taiwan.” The intent behind the drill is to serve a deterrent to “continued political tricks” by the U.S. and Taiwan to “undermine peace and stability” in the region, the statement adds. China’s defense ministry also angrily reacted to the U.S. delegation’s visit, stating that it “flagrantly violates” China’s sovereignty and the one-China principle—which Washington insists it is continuing to adhere to. Why Synthetic Marijuana Is More Toxic To The Brain Than Pot
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of the original chemists who designed synthetic cannabis for research purposes, John W. Huffman, PhD once said that he couldn’t imagine why anyone would try it recreationally. Because of its deadly toxicity, he likened it to playing Russian roulette , and said that those who tried it must be “idiots.” Whether that’s the case or not, the numbers of users is certainly rising, and so are overdoses. New Hampshire has declared a state of emergency , and the number of emergency room visits for overdose from the synthetic drug has jumped. One teen died earlier this month after slipping into a coma, reportedly from using the drug. Synthetic pot also goes by hundreds of names: Spice, K-2, fake weed, Yucatan Fire, Bliss, Blaze, Skunk, Moon Rocks, and JWH-018, -073 (and other numerical suffixes), after Huffman’s initials. Synthetic cannabis, unlike pot, however, can cause a huge variety of symptoms , which can be severe: … [Read more...] about Why Synthetic Marijuana Is More Toxic To The Brain Than Pot
