De Blasio To Trump: ‘Are You Telling New York City To Drop Dead?’

April 19, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin TOPLINE New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio’s calls on President Trump to provide federal assistance increased in ferocity at a Sunday press briefing after announcing last week a $2 billion budget slash in city municipal services, as the resources are redirected to fight coronavirus. KEY FACTS “How on earth do you think that New York City can get back on its feet without federal support?” said De Blasio. “Mr. President, are you going to save New York City, or are you telling New York City to drop dead?” De Blasio is requesting the President call on Senate Republicans to provide federal stimulus to New York City, comparing Trump’s neglect of New York City to that of President Gerald Ford’s during the 1970s fiscal crisis. On Thursday, De Blasio announced a $2 billion cut to the municipal budget, which will affect all aspects of New York City life, with cuts like public pool closures, fewer trash pickups and … [Read more...] about De Blasio To Trump: ‘Are You Telling New York City To Drop Dead?’

New Apple Leak Adds To iPhone 15 Price Fears

February 4, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apple leaks claim that iPhone 15 Pro models are getting more expensive , and now a new leak breaking down iPhone 14 sales data may explain why. According to display analyst Ross Young, iPhone 14 sales are falling behind the iPhone 13. Apple confirmed this in its Q4 earnings call , citing supply chain constraints, but Young revealed something altogether more shocking: iPhone 14 Plus sales have collapsed. And this adds considerable weight to multiple leaks claiming Apple will shake up iPhone 15 pricing to fix this. Young, highly respected for his near-perfect track record, broke down display shipments for all iPhone 14 models in a graph (below). It shows Apple procuring a roughly equal number of displays for iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models ahead of their release in August. By October, iPhone 14 Plus orders had halved before dropping a further 80% in November, with orders … [Read more...] about New Apple Leak Adds To iPhone 15 Price Fears

Essentially, as a buy now, pay later service, it allows the consumer a payment option that works similarly to a credit card, but with no interest charges. “No student should ever lose out on educational opportunities because they’re worried about the ability to pay at the time of service,” Sezzle CEO Charlie Youakim said in statement. DNC Approves New Primary Calendar That Bumps Iowa, New Hampshire

February 4, 2023 by dailycaller.com

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) approved a new calendar for the 2024 presidential primaries Saturday that bumps Iowa and New Hampshire from being the first in the nation, CBS News reported. The calendar gives South Carolina the first presidential primary election on Feb. 3, 2024, followed by New Hampshire and Nevada on Feb. 6, according to CBS News. Georgia and Michigan, swing states carried by President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, also will move up the calendar, while Iowa is completely out of the early primary window. (RELATED: Democratic New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen Snubs White House Over Primary Schedule Change) Iowa and New Hampshire both have laws that require that they hold the first presidential nomination processes of their kind on the books, which could lead to the DNC stripping them of delegates if they defy the primary calendar, CBS reported Friday. Iowa’s and New Hampshire’s members of the DNC voted against the new primary calendar. … [Read more...] about DNC Approves New Primary Calendar That Bumps Iowa, New Hampshire

New York Republicans Demand Investigation Into Alleged Antisemitic Question On State Exam

February 3, 2023 by dailycaller.com

House representative lawmakers from New York sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul and the state’s Department of Education Commissioner Betty Rosa demanding an investigation into a potentially antisemitic question on the New York Regents Exam that asked respondents “who benefited most” from the changes in the Israeli borders from 1947 to 2017. The letter was sent Thursday by nine Republican representatives, headed by Rep. Mike Lawler, but did not include Republican representatives George Santos or Nicole Malliotakis. Lawler said he was “appalled” to see such a “blatantly antisemitic question” on the exam, according to the press release. (RELATED: College Offering New Course On Israel’s ‘Crime Of Apartheid’) The letter came from a place of “grave concern” after lawmakers saw the content of one of the questions on the exam. “We are writing to express our grave concern with the abhorrent, anti-Semitic question included in this winter’s NYS Regents Exam in Global History and … [Read more...] about New York Republicans Demand Investigation Into Alleged Antisemitic Question On State Exam

2022 Year In Review: Crypto Policy Experiences Massive Turbulence In Congress Amid TerraUSD And FTX Failures

December 23, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What Happened In 2022 Even before a months-long winter engulfed the digital-assets market, 2022 was shaping up as the year that Washington began to get serious about regulating the cryptocurrency business. That resolve was bolstered throughout the year by a series of calamities that included a massive stablecoin failure of terraUSD and the associated luna, with contagion effects that impacted BlockFi, Celsius Network and Voyager Digital exchange that called into question the ability of crypto exchanges to be digital asset custodians that would protect investors’ assets. Essentially, the crypto industry managed to recreate the same risks of the traditional banking system, in which the institutions that were responsible for holding customer’s assets were simultaneously lending funds, leading to leverage, liquidity and capital conflicts. Before the year could end, the third-largest exchange, FTX – previously seen as a … [Read more...] about 2022 Year In Review: Crypto Policy Experiences Massive Turbulence In Congress Amid TerraUSD And FTX Failures

Reflections on Marcos’ 1st 6 months

February 5, 2023 by business.inquirer.net

ILLUSTRATION BY ALBERT RODRIGUEZ It’s been six months since President Marcos was sworn into office. If we liken Mr. Marcos’ six-year term to the well-loved game of basketball, we are now in the second half of the first of six games. The first half of Game 1 was filled with many challenges. A Pulse Asia survey last September 2022 showed that the top concerns of Filipinos are controlling inflation, increasing the pay of workers and creating more jobs. Unfortunately, these continue to burden Filipinos into halftime of Game 1. Before the first “game” ends on June 30, 2023, we’d like to share some of the administration’s notable wins during its first six months and some reflections on how to sustain the fight against these challenges. Wins First among Mr. Marcos’ wins is the appointment of credible and experienced economic managers. This means that we have a strong team to overcome the pandemic’s lingering effects on the economy. Second, several executive actions were made … [Read more...] about Reflections on Marcos’ 1st 6 months

Coronavirus Could Be A $12 Billion Hit To Entertainment And Audiences May Never Be The Same

March 18, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin They’re all closed. Movie Theaters. Bars. Nightclubs. Arenas. Cafes. In New York, Broadway and museums are shuttered. In San Francisco it’s even more dire. Across the country and the world, cities are shutting down, leaving humans from Seattle to Shanghai without traditional ways of finding distraction. The mandate for social distancing that has proven essential at slowing the spread of the coronavirus will cut about $12 billion of entertainment revenue from the U.S. if the shutdown lasts until July, as President Trump signaled . Billions more are not being spent on creating new content as film and television production is frozen. Things could get a lot worse. “ This is definitely unprecedented and turning everyone's lives completely upside down,” says Ryan Borba, managing editor at concert tracker Pollstar. The concert and live event industry brought in $34 billion last year, according to … [Read more...] about Coronavirus Could Be A $12 Billion Hit To Entertainment And Audiences May Never Be The Same
