Neiman Marcus Needs To Court The Millennial And Gen Z Customer. Can It Succeed?

May 12, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Neiman Marcus filed for C hapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, and a lot of the blame was (rightly) put on the upscale retailer’s massive debt load though the Coronavirus was cited as the cause as well. But, another issue must be raised: Neiman Marcus long struggled to attract millennial and Gen Z consumers. Courting these two groups is key to any longstanding retailer’s existence. So how exactly did the Dallas-based retailer—more synonymous with lifestyle excess than today’s “woke” generation—fall short? Beth Goldstein, an industry analyst at the NPD Group, says Neiman Marcus isn’t alone. “Most department stores today have this challenge, especially at the high-end. Gen Z and Millennials are driven to specialty retailers and direct-to-consumer channels, both in-store and online,” she says, adding, “New brands born online offer great stories about function, sustainability, and convenience which captured their … [Read more...] about Neiman Marcus Needs To Court The Millennial And Gen Z Customer. Wall Street falls as growth stocks, glum China data weigh

May 16, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A NEW YORK/BENGALURU (May 16): Wall Street's main indexes fell on Monday, as downbeat data out of China added to worries about a global economic slowdown against the backdrop of aggressive policy tightening by the US Federal Reserve. Chinese and European stock markets fell, while oil slid as data showed China's economic activity cooled sharply in April as Covid-19 lockdowns took a heavy toll on consumption, industrial production and employment. Nine of the 11 major S&P sectors declined in morning trade. Technology and consumer discretionary stocks fell 1.6% and 1.8% respectively. Big growth companies such as Amazon.com, Alphabet Inc, Microsoft Corp, Apple Inc, Tesla Inc and Nvidia Corp slipped between 1.1% and 2.6%. Energy shares outperformed and were up 1.5%. Wall Street closed sharply higher on Friday, but still the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq indexes posted their longest weekly losing streaks in over a decade. "Investors are just a little bit … [Read more...] about Wall Street falls as growth stocks, glum China data weigh

Bond traders reel as inflation hits world’s emerging local debt

May 16, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (May 16): As spiraling inflation spreads across the globe, emerging-market bonds from Turkey to Thailand are feeling the brunt. Local-currency debt from developing nations -- which is far more sensitive to a country’s domestic inflationary pressures than dollar denominated equivalents — has slumped almost 9% this year, the most since at least 2008, according to a Bloomberg index. There’s unlikely to be any relief soon as central bankers around the world attempt to control surging prices by raising interest rates even more aggressively — potentially risking growth in doing so. That certainly wasn’t the plan. Many developing economies led the charge in rate hikes last year, getting ahead of policy makers in the US and hoping to avoid a redux of the 2013 taper tantrum. But with inflation raging in the US and the strong dollar pressuring currencies elsewhere, these countries are now making a new rulebook. Policy makers across emerging nations are either … [Read more...] about Bond traders reel as inflation hits world’s emerging local debt

30 Executives’ Perspectives On Remote, Hybrid, And In-Office Work

May 13, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Whether you’re a manager at a company with 3,000 employees or three, something that leaders across industries have learned in the past two years is that giving employees more flexibility is key to retention and recruiting of new hires. The pandemic forced the majority (~70%) of the US workforce to adapt in a plethora of different ways to keep everyone healthy while still continuing to work efficiently. Companies that previously had 0% of their employees working remotely had to figure out how to seamlessly transfer all operations to a 100% digital environment. While obviously a ton of bad things came from the pandemic, that’s not to say there weren’t learnings and lessons discovered across the board. The reality is that more talent in every part of the country, and the world, now has access to greater opportunities because of the increased normalization of remote work. Gone are the days where you have to live in San Francisco … [Read more...] about 30 Executives’ Perspectives On Remote, Hybrid, And In-Office Work

The Secret Ingredient to Finding Your Next Million-Dollar Innovation Idea

May 4, 2022 by www.inc.com

Companies inattentive to innovation get left behind--or worse, fail altogether. While those of us over 40 fondly remember starting our weekends with a trip to the video store, for example, the experience pales in comparison to conveniently streaming blockbuster entertainment from the comfort of your couch. While hailing a cab in New York City was fun the first time, there's nothing like the certainty of watching the map on your screen as a dedicated driver heads your way to pick you up. In other words, though one experience may have delighted us initially, a more innovative--and perhaps industry altering--option could be waiting in the wings vying for our business. Successful brands are those that out-innovate the competition. They never settle for the status quo, always seeking the next differentiator for their category. They survive in today's highly competitive landscape by continually evolving to deliver better products, better services, and--most importantly--better customer … [Read more...] about The Secret Ingredient to Finding Your Next Million-Dollar Innovation Idea

Your Next Romantic Getaway: WHITE Exclusive Suites & Villas in the Azores, Portugal

October 19, 2017 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Despite growing up in a country full of beautiful palaces and pousadas, the owner of the new WHITE boutique hotel took his inspiration from the other edge of Europe. João Reis so loved a particular hotel in Santorini that, he says, “I’d rather spend four nights there, in a 65-square-meter room [about 700 square feet], than two weeks at a regular big resort.” So when he set about opening his second hotel, on a seaside clifftop on São Miguel island in the Azores (after the popular Santa Barbara on the opposite coast), he choose whitewash and driftwood over tiles and terra-cotta. “It’s white so there will be no colors to distract you” from the jaw-dropping views of green hills and blue ocean. The swimming pool Paulo Goulart Integration with nature is the goal, and it’s achieved with rough volcanic stone, rope, metal, cotton, plants and the occasional living wall—as well as big windows, a wide terrace and a … [Read more...] about Your Next Romantic Getaway: WHITE Exclusive Suites & Villas in the Azores, Portugal
