Lydia Ramsey, provided by Published 7:54 am CDT, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 I got a chance to demo Apple's new HomePod smart speaker. The $350 device went on sale Friday and will begin shipping February 9. In a short demo, HomePod sounds impressive, but had a few drawbacks: a hefty price tag, limited "smart" abilities, and a reliance on Apple Music. I wasn't sure what to expect from the new $350 device, which became available for presale on Friday and starts shipping February 9. After all, HomePod was delayed by several months, and Apple is late to the game on the device in the first place — Sonos, Google, and Amazon have already beaten it to the punch. But in my limited time with HomePod, I was impressed. It sounds fantastic on its own, and even better when compared to other high-end smart speakers on the market. From all outward appearances, HomePod is an excellent speaker. The only problem is, that might be all that HomePod is. Sounds great … [Read more...] about I became a member of One Medical, a primary care practice that charges a $199 annual fee and has plans to double over the next two years. Here’s what it was like.

Brian McCollum Detroit Free Press Published 6:02 AM EDT Apr 15, 2019 The Motown legacy is full of familiar stories. It’s a history teeming with well-worn tales of artists and songs and dramatic moments and movers-and-shakers, including Berry Gordy Jr., who secured the loan in 1959 that led to Motown Records — a milestone that’s being marked in this 60th anniversary year. Now the Motown Museum is turning the lens in the other direction, highlighting the people beyond the walls of Hitsville whose culture, society and personal lives were touched and transformed by the little Detroit label that could. “Reflections: My Motown Story,” a new anniversary-year exhibit, will be unveiled Monday night in a private event at the West Grand Boulevard complex, before opening to the public as the museum resumes regular operating hours Tuesday. Melody Baetens The Detroit News Published 4:09 PM EST Jan 14, 2019 Beer-centric restaurant chain HopCat has unveiled the new name of their popular seasoned french fries. Formerly known as “crack fries,” the beer-battered treat are now called "cosmic fries." This comes after backlash from some who said the term “crack fries” was insensitive to those struggling with drug addiction. The Michigan-based restaurant group, which was founded in 2008, announced via a blog post in December that it would be changing the name of the fries. “Our vision for creating an inclusive company that supports our communities, shows love for our team and best serves our guests is not compatible with the continued use of the Crack Fries name,” wrote BarFly Ventures CEO Mark Gray late last year. Nothing has changed about the fries through all of this except for the name, which is inspired by the Frank Zappa song “Cosmik Debris,” … [Read more...] about HopCat announces new name for controversial ‘crack fries’
Many animated Disney movies come with a unique original soundtrack. Disney songs like “Circle of Life” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” have been nominated for or have won Oscars. “The Bare Necessities” and “Under the Sea” are some of Disney’s upbeat and popular songs. “Friend Like Me” from “Aladdin” was nominated for an Academy Award. There are very few things that trigger an immense feeling of childhood nostalgia quite like belting out your favourite Disney song as an adult. Not only do you remember the exact scene said the song is sung in, but also you can (attempt to) sing the background vocals while simultaneously singing the lead. There’s no denying that Disney has perfected the formula of producing entertaining and long-lasting family-friendly films. A heartfelt and emotionally genuine story coupled with some great original tunes is essentially a recipe for success in the Walt Disney … [Read more...] about 11 of the best Disney songs of all time
