New Jersey mandates media literacy for K-12 students
As misinformation and conspiracy theories continue to proliferate online, it’s not enough that social media platforms attempt to prevent misleading content. They may never stop the deluge of disinformation, so experts have also started calling for more media literacy , teaching people how to critically assess the information they’re exposed to. According to one recent survey , just 38% of people said they learned how to analyze media messaging in high school. That percentage is set to change for students in New Jersey who will now be required to learn media-literacy skills under new legislation signed this week by Governor Phil Murphy. The bill requires that the New Jersey Department of Education develop standards in “information literacy” for K-12 students, with the goal of helping kids find, evaluate, and “effectively use” information, learn critical-thinking skills, and differentiate between facts and opinions, and primary and secondary sources. “Our … [Read more...] about New Jersey mandates media literacy for K-12 students
New York City FC’s Home Comforts In The Bronx And Queens
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin New York City FC made a stuttering start to the 2023 Major League Soccer season, losing its opening game 2-0 to Nashville and drawing 1-1 with Chicago Fire. The MLS schedule handed head coach Nick Cushing and his team two away games to kick off the new season, travelling first to Tennessee and then to Illinois, returning to New York with just one point. The home opener against Inter Miami was more encouraging, and that’s perhaps no surprise given NYCFC regularly has one of the best home records in the league. Despite worries about the departure of many key players in the past year, including the spine of the team from goalkeeper Sean Johnson to goalscorer Taty Castellanos, there was something more familiar about the team’s play once it was back in the Bronx. NYCFC created a few chances against Inter Miami, with an expected goals score of 1.45 - 0.30 in its favor, indicating the 1-0 win was deserved. The low … [Read more...] about New York City FC’s Home Comforts In The Bronx And Queens
Viking Yachts Go Very Big With The Introduction Of Two New Flagship Sportfishing Boats—Valhalla 55 And Viking 90
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I’ve been to a zillion press conferences that have been held to introduce new boat models over the last 25 years or so. So, please believe me when I say, nobody, absolutely nobody , in the boat business introduces new semi-custom sportfishing models quite like Viking Yachts President and CEO Pat Healey. He smiles. His voice caries. He talks about how much his customers mean to him. He reminds the group of assembled journos how much he and his team “love to fish and build boats.” And he really means what he says when he describes how proud he is of the boats his New Jersey-based, family-owned company have built in the past, and how excited he is to introduce two new flagships Viking Yachts have developed to meet the demands of some of the most demanding boat owners in the world—offshore sportfishermen. And he should be proud. The new Viking 90 sportfish and Valhalla 55 center console that were introduced last … [Read more...] about Viking Yachts Go Very Big With The Introduction Of Two New Flagship Sportfishing Boats—Valhalla 55 And Viking 90
Police Investigate After Fiery Car Crash In New York Leaves 5 Minors Dead, 1 Injured
Five young Connecticut residents were killed when their vehicle veered off a New York parkway and hit a tree Sunday, leaving a 9-year-old boy as the sole survivor, police say. The 2021 Nissan Rouge SUV was traveling on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale when it veered off the road, according to the Westchester County Police Department (WCPD). The evidence indicates the 16-year-old alleged driver was distracted or fell asleep, police said. A 9-year-old managed to escape through the trunk of the car and was brought to Westchester Medical Center for medical attention, WCPD wrote in a press release. “The driver did not turn with the roadway, it continued in a straight line. We believe it hit a boulder and then hit a tree head-on, and the car was engulfed in flames at that point, and the five passengers who perished were unable to exit safely from the passenger component front and back seat of the car,” Westchester County Executive George Latimer said during a media … [Read more...] about Police Investigate After Fiery Car Crash In New York Leaves 5 Minors Dead, 1 Injured
You’ll soon see sports retailer Fanatics’ logo on the NHL’s official player jerseys
Sports retail and e-commerce giant Fanatics has made another big move to push beyond fan gear and services and into the actual sports themselves. The company has announced a new 10-year deal to become the official supplier of on-ice uniforms for the National Hockey League, starting with the 2024-25 season. While Fanatics has been making official Major League Baseball on-field uniforms since 2017 for Nike, this is the first time that Fanatics’ own branding will be directly on the official player uniforms in professional sports. The NHL has partnered with Fanatics, in a variety of ways, since 2005, in a deal started under founder and CEO Michael Rubin’s first company, GSI Commerce. Since then, that deal has expanded to include extensive apparel and headwear rights, recently added league-wide merchandise rights for Fanatics-owned Mitchell & Ness, as well as operation of on-site retail for NHL events like the All-Star Game and Winter Classic, and in-stadium retail for select … [Read more...] about You’ll soon see sports retailer Fanatics’ logo on the NHL’s official player jerseys
