5 Great Coffee Shops In Salt Lake City For Remote Workers
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s no secret that the urge to live in Utah is growing – and fast. Last year alone, almost 35,000 Americans migrated to Utah – 10,000 more than in 2020 and the most since 2005. The real secret is why. Even before COVID-19 hit, millennials and young Gen Xers had begun swapping their busy city lives for affordable suburban adventures with the opportunity to buy a house. The pandemic’s spike in remote work only catalyzed this movement. From July 2020 to July 2021, housing units grew faster in Utah than in any other state. Aside from its real estate value, a solid job market also drew people to Utah, which, with a current unemployment rate 1.5% below the national average, continues to do well. Then, statistics aside, there’s the fact that the state is just downright gorgeous. Of all the counties in Utah, it’s not difficult to understand why Tooele and Utah counties — roughly 30 minutes from Salt Lake City — are … [Read more...] about 5 Great Coffee Shops In Salt Lake City For Remote Workers
FMM: Do not delay foreign worker approval, continue with current procedure
Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai (Photo by Chu Junk Seng/The Edge) - A + A KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): The foreign worker application procedure, which includes the decentralisation of the interview process via the One Stop Centre at the state labour offices to allow the industry a seamless process of foreign worker application, should not be stopped as it would disrupt economic recovery, said the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). FMM president Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai said in a statement that the recent announcement by the government on the impending changes to the procedure has created much confusion as well as anxiety within the industry. This, he said, is because many employers are still in the process of replacing their workers that left during the pandemic period following the freeze on recruitment for a period of two years, while others are in the process of expansion due to an increase in demand and the need to fulfil the backlog in orders. On Aug 5, the … [Read more...] about FMM: Do not delay foreign worker approval, continue with current procedure
Peloton Interactive’s 2,800 Worker Layoff And The WARN Act
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Any time a company announces a major layoff, it’s big news. Peloton Interactive (Peloton) recently announced that it will be letting go roughly 2,800 of its worldwide positions. This layoff will include about 20% of Peloton’s corporate workforce. This type of story normally isn’t something employment lawyers take note of, unless the mass firing was somehow illegal . But how can a large layoff be illegal? One way is if it violates the WARN Act. As far as we know, Peloton’s 2,800 worker layoff is perfectly legal and does not violate the WARN Act. But we can still use this event to get a better understanding of the WARN Act and what it does for employees. What Is the WARN Act? The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act is a federal law that places conditions on how certain employers can conduct mass firings. Basically, the WARN Act requires a covered employer to provide 60 days’ notice to … [Read more...] about Peloton Interactive’s 2,800 Worker Layoff And The WARN Act
Long COVID is still draining many workers. Here’s how it affects productivity
Since the very first cases of COVID-19 were identified, this new virus has largely confounded the scientific community. But perhaps even more mysterious are the wide-ranging symptoms that many who contracted the virus continue to experience long after the expected recovery period. This phenomenon is known as long COVID, or long-haul COVID. advertisement advertisement The severity of long COVID runs the gamut, with some people experiencing relatively minor but somewhat disruptive symptoms and others feeling completely incapacitated. Debilitating long-COVID symptoms occur in a small minority of cases, but they are devastatingly real for the individuals experiencing them. Despite emerging scientific and abundant anecdotal evidence, there are many people—even in the medical establishment—who remain skeptical of the potential … [Read more...] about Long COVID is still draining many workers. This Hot New Vacation Spot Could Be Underwater Within 15 Years
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin ISLA HOLBOX, MEXICO - While the wind-roiled waters of the Gulf of Mexico lash the shores of this narrow island less than 100 yards away, barefoot construction workers trudge through puddles of mud and shin-deep standing waters left by recent rains to lay the foundation for much-needed road improvements. The workers' struggle to keep the slurry from immediately filling in the trenches they're digging could be just as futile as keeping this road open 10-15 years from now if worst-case scenario estimates about rising sea levels pan out. (Credit: Eric Mack) The way things have been going with the latest projections, that's how soon it could be that this street is permanently under sea water rather than just temporarily swamped by torrential rains. The upgrades to the current grid of sandy streets used by the small island community's ubiquitous golf carts … [Read more...] about This Hot New Vacation Spot Could Be Underwater Within 15 Years

No stethoscope, no problem: This scrubs company could be your new favorite athleisure brand
Medical scrubs are hot right now—because, well, they’re hot all the time. The medical apparel industry was considered ripe for disruption , with direct-to-consumer brands like Jaanuu , Clove , Folds , and Figs featuring fashion-forward scrubs and footwear, thereby widening healthcare workers’ otherwise generic options. The concept seems to hold weight: Figs’ IPO debuted in 2021, targeting what the company estimated to be a $12 billion U.S. healthcare apparel industry . advertisement advertisement Jaanuu received a $75 million investment from Eurazeo in January, bringing their total funding to just shy of $100 million.
