The iPhone XR is an awkward smartphone: It’s sized between the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, but it’s more affordable than both of those phones. The iPhone XR is made of cheaper materials than the iPhone XS and XS Max, and unfortunately the difference in quality shows. If Apple wanted to make a 6.1-inch phone, they should have made the best possible phone they could have at that size, instead of sacrificing here and there to fit a price point. Two years ago, in 2017, Apple had an iPhone for every size and price point. The iPhone SE was the smallest and most affordable phone. It had a 4-inch display, and started at $US350. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus — the pinnacle of the iPhone 6-era phones — started at $US700 and $US800. Then Apple had the iPhone X, a … [Read more...] about Apple’s iPhone lineup is the weakest it’s been in years — and it has everything to do with the iPhone XR

Apple has about nine months before it unveils its next-generation iPhones. The company has ample time to improve demand for its current phones, and a small adjustment to the price could make a big difference. Apple has an iPhone problem. For the past decade, the iPhone business has been Apple's main source of income and success. But that seems to be changing. On January 2, Apple announced that it missed its revenue targets for the all-important holiday quarter; results came in about 7% lower than expected. This led to Apple's stock taking a nosedive. Apple CEO Tim Cook blamed most of the revenue lapse on the iPhone. "Lower than anticipated iPhone revenue, primarily in Greater China, accounts for all of our … [Read more...] about Apple should give the iPhone XS and iPhone XR a permanent price cut (AAPL)
