Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Zach Wilson has been cleared to make his return for the New York Jets in Week 4, a hugely positive outcome for the second-year quarterback given his season initially appeared to be over when he suffered a non-contact knee injury in the first exhibition game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Now recovered from a bone bruise and a meniscus tear, Wilson will look to enjoy a much-improved second season as the starter after enduring pronounced rookie struggles last season after being taken with the second overall pick. However, in his first game back, Wilson has been dealt something of a rough hand as the Jets go on the road to face the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers' defense may not be as formidable without the presence of star edge rusher T.J. Watt, who is sidelined with a torn pectoral. Yet it has still been a top-12 unit in the league through the first three weeks of the season. Pittsburgh ranks 12th in … [Read more...] about New York Jets: Zach Wilson Faces Testing Start On Return From Injury

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Some questioned whether it might take time for Erling Haaland to adapt to his new surroundings in the Premier PINC League. There was some logic behind this argument. While Haaland clearly had the physical and technical attributes to thrive in England’s top-flight, he is different sort of centre forward for Manchester City. But this is precisely why Haaland has hit the ground running for his new team, scoring scoring 14 goals in just nine appearances. The 22-year-old offers a different dimension in the final third for Pep Guardiola’s team. It doesn’t matter so much that Haaland is isolated for large periods of time when he is so clinical with the chances he is presented. The problem posed by Haaland to opposition teams is an obvious one - he has the pace to get in behind a high defensive line and the finishing ability to score from anywhere 20 yards out from goal. Even when opponents get close to the Norwegian, his … [Read more...] about How Can Premier League Defenses Stop Manchester City Striker Erling Haaland?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When people think of fantasy cities, certain names come to mind like Lankmar, Ankh-Morpork or King’s Landing. One of the most famous is Emerald City, the biggest city of L. Frank Baum’s stories set in the land of Oz. The popularity of the original novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, caused Baum to return to the stories multiple times, even after he vowed to end the series. Oz has been the setting of 14 novels, a classic piece of cinema and several Broadway musicals. Now, designer Andrew Kolb looks at this modern fantasy setting through the lens of a place where fantasy characters can adventure along with adaptations for the Fifth Edition rules set. Publisher Andrews McMeel sent along a review copy of this unusual adaptation called Oz . Modern Fantasy The book itself feels like a relic by featuring a graphic design right out of a mid-century textbook. If someone aged up the book, covered it in a layer of dust and … [Read more...] about Follow The Yellow Brick Road To A New Dungeons & Dragons Setting

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Vacation-sharing platform Airbnb stock (NASDAQ NDAQ NDAQ : ABNB) has seen its stock price decline by about 9% over the last month, roughly tracking the decline in the broader Nasdaq-100. There have been mounting concerns about the economy with U.S. GDP contracting over the last two quarters and things could remain challenging as the Federal Reserve continues to hike interest rates (it carried out a 0.75% rate hike last week) as it looks to rein in stubbornly high inflation. Airbnb has taken a hit, considering that it is a high-growth, high multiple stock that is very dependent on discretionary spending. However, Airbnb’s business has actually performed quite well in recent quarters despite the mounting economic headwinds. For example, in Q2, Airbnb’s revenue rose by 58% versus last year to $2.1 billion, and nights and experiences booked rose by about 25% versus last year to 103.7 million, making it the strongest … [Read more...] about What’s New With Airbnb Stock?
Representative image. Pakistan's new finance minister Ishaq Dar said on Wednesday he will work to rein in inflation while cutting interest rates, saying the rupee currency was undervalued and promising a strong response to the South Asian nation's worst economic crisis. In his fourth time in the job, the chartered accountant is facing a balance of payment crisis, foreign reserves that cover barely a month's imports, historic lows in the rupee, inflation exceeding 27% and the aftermath of devastating floods. "We will control inflation," Dar told reporters in televised comments after he was sworn in. "We will bring interest rates down," he said. He did not explain how he would tame price pressures while also cutting rates. Dar also had a warning for currency market speculators, saying that the Pakistani rupee was undervalued. It has weakened more than 30% against the U.S. dollar so far this year. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Fed’s mission is to crush expectations that inflation will remain high in the future. To that end, Fed governors are fanning out across the world to put this mission into their own words. Given what they are saying so far, it seems to me that they are not adding much to what Jerome Powell said on September 21 — that the Fed will keep raising rates until inflation drops from its most recent 8.3% rate to 2%. Sadly, I think high interest rates are a crude instrument for crushing inflationary expectations. While the Fed can boost borrowing costs and imperil the earnings of companies that sell in countries with currencies that are weakening — such as Europe and the UK; it can’t do anything about one of the biggest drivers of inflation — Russia’s war against Ukraine. What none of the Fed governors mentioned is how the plunging stock market could cause a reverse wealth effect that crimps consumer spending.
