Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Every season, Paris sees a whole new batch of hotels open their doors, which can make it hard to keep up. These last few months, the French capital has welcomed offshoots of international big hitters, including a Bvlgari hotel with a sense of service that'll be hard for other properties to match, and a first urban property for Cheval Blanc. Revamps of the Saint James chateau-hotel and historic Lancaster have also made it onto the list, as well as openings of smaller boutique hotels for explorers looking to put a different spin on the city. Bvlgari Hotel Paris About as haute as it gets, the Bvlgari Paris opened earlier this year, joining locations across the world from Bali to London. Sporting a seriously sleek look that screams Italian glamor without so much as a hint of rococo, the brand, that is set to continue its expansion on home ground in Rome, Tokyo and Los Angeles, has discreetly glided into the top spot when it … [Read more...] about Inside Paris’ New Crop Of Chic Hotels: 8 Places To Stay

Pelosi Denies Pentagon Warned Against Taiwan Trip Following China’s Ramped Up Military Response
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi denied that the military warned her against making a trip to Taiwan after the Biden administration’s concerns that her visit could cause a firestorm with China in a Wednesday press conference. Pelosi’s Aug. 2 to Aug. 3 visit to Taiwan angered China, who called the trip a threat to China’s sovereignty, and set off a week of People’s Liberation Army live fire exercises in the waters around the self-governing island. In July, President Joe Biden said the military believed Pelosi’s then-unconfirmed trip was “not a good idea” as China ramped up threats of a “forceful” response some feared could include military action. “All I can say is that we are very proud of our military. Their preparation… actually I think minimized the impact of the Chinese on our trip,” said Pelosi. “We do not address questions about our travels before our trip, so in keeping with that I won’t comment on the comment the President made before our trip,” she added. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What do dreams smell like? That’s a question Tory Burch has answered with her first collection of multiple scents, called the Essence of Dreams Collection . “I have always been fascinated by scents and the way they can transport us or change how we feel,” Burch, Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Tory Burch , says. “This process began early in the pandemic, and I wanted to create beautiful, uplifting fragrances that would inspire us to visualize a better future—one with more love, joy, freedom, magic and peace.” Encompassing five fragrances, Burch couldn’t limit her vision to just one. “My tastes are eclectic, and I designed these fragrances the same way I design ready-to-wear and accessories: They are tools for self-expression,” she says. “Scent is so personal; we choose a fragrance each day based on our mood, what we’re wearing, or how we want to feel. DOH to ease curbs when booster shots reach 24 million
A Marikina resident takes a selfie while getting a booster shot. NIÑO JESUS ORBETA/FILE PHOTO The COVID-19 restrictions in the country may be further relaxed only when half of the eligible individuals, or about 24 million, get inoculated with first booster shots to guarantee a sufficient protection for most of the population, a top health official said on Friday. This was among the conditions that would have to be met before the government could go ahead with more relaxed COVID-19 policies and fewer mobility restrictions as seen in other countries. “The restrictions would have to be discussed with experts and other agencies. But in terms of the threshold, we have to increase the wall of immunity of the population. For us, we need to [get] at least 50 percent of the eligible population … to get their first boosters,” Maria Rosario Vergeire, officer in charge of the Department of Health (DOH), said at a press conference. She said this was equivalent to around 23.9 million … [Read more...] about DOH to ease curbs when booster shots reach 24 million

LEWIS: Many Republicans won’t tell the truth about Trump. Here’s why
With Trump candidates doing so well in the summer primaries, many Republicans remain conspicuously silent about the former president’s enduring appeal. Not me. “If criticism of Mr. Trump is what you want,” I write in my new book, “ Party Animal, The Truth About President Trump, Power Politics & the Partisan Press , ” “turn on the television, read any newspaper or scroll any website. It is ubiquitous and won’t be repeated here…” (RELATED: BASILE: In The Swamp Everyone Finds A Way To Win) Too many beltway Republicans are eager for a return to the good ‘ol days of a “comfortable conservatism” marked by more spending at home and intervention abroad. The fact is, Donald Trump brought the GOP kicking and screaming into issues they’d been avoiding for decades — from trade to immigration to ‘woke’ corporatism. Oh, and he helped bring about the most originalist Supreme Court in my lifetime. I worked closely with the Trump administration in my brief tenure in the remarkable … [Read more...] about LEWIS: Many Republicans won’t tell the truth about Trump. Here’s why
