Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. These Strategies Can Help

December 18, 2018 by www.inc.com

In my line of business, which involves the sale of drug testing kits, I run into many a sad story about how addiction has ruined lives and caused an immense amount of grief among people who get hooked on any number of substances, especially opioids . And while you may think I am talking about people who were born into poverty and were down on their luck and looking for an escape (and I've heard those stories, too), I'm not. I'm talking about people who have lived privileged lives, earned college degrees, started successful practices and followed their entrepreneurial dream. David J. Linden, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says there is some evidence that the traits that make a good entrepreneur also make one susceptible to addiction. It can also be a rather lonely road entrepreneurs walk as they get their businesses off the ground and that, coupled with a constant fear of failure hanging over their heads, may also lead to … [Read more...] about Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. Doubts due to fast poll results transmission? PPCRV chair says it was faster in 2019

May 16, 2022 by newsinfo.inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines — The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) dispelled doubts with the fast inflow of votes in the quick count of the 2022 national election results by reminding the public that transmission in the 2019 midterm polls was actually faster. PPCRV chairperson Myla Villanueva said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel’s Headstart on Monday that the big story in 2019 was the seven-hour glitch which delayed the partial quick count being done by the citizen’s arm. But this was actually even faster than the 2022 polls — data of which, she said, were opened to students and universities to ensure transparency and increase credibility who all agreed that there was nothing unusual. “To put it in perspective, maybe in 2019 the big story was the seven-hour glitch.  But in reality data was coming in, we just weren’t seeing it in our servers while the other servers were seeing it.  To be exact, the rate of the transmissions of 2019 were actually faster than … [Read more...] about Doubts due to fast poll results transmission? EXPLAINED: What’s behind North Korea’s COVID-19 admission?

May 13, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image Before acknowledging its first domestic COVID-19 cases, North Korea spent 2 1/2 years rejecting outside offers of vaccines and steadfastly claiming that its superior socialist system was protecting its 26 million people from a malicious virus that had killed millions around the world. Its surprise admission this week has left many outsiders wondering just how bad things really are, and there's rising worry that it could cause a major humanitarian crisis in a country with one of the world's worst public medical infrastructures. Because the North has been shut up tight since early 2020, with no reporters, aid workers or diplomats regularly going in, reading the situation is something of a guessing game, and the North has been vague with its state media descriptions of widespread fevers. But there are some worrying facts: no reported vaccines, very limited testing capability, a terrible medical system and widespread poverty. May 11, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image Health may be wealth but the fear of ill health has proved to be strong medicine for the medical insurance industry. The total health insurance premium collected in India grew by a whopping 25 percent in just a year, possibly due to the huge rush by people to protect themselves and their families from catastrophic out-of-pocket medical expenses arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and increase in the premium cost. A paper titled Health Insurance in 2042: Challenges and Opportunities prepared by the National Insurance Academy under the Union finance ministry has revealed that while Rs 58,572 crore was collected in 2020-21 as health insurance premium by insurance companies, this figured jumped to Rs 73,330 crore in the next financial year. The first quarter of fiscal 2021 was marked by the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which saw the maximum number of hospitalisations and deaths across the country.
