Former prime minister Manmohan Singh on December 4 said the 1984 anti-Sikh riots could have been avoided if the then Home Minister PV Narasimha Rao had acted on the advice of IK Gujral.Singh was speaking at an event to mark the 100th birth anniversary of IK Gujral, who was the prime minister of India in 1997-1998.“When the sad event of 1984 took place, Gujral ji on that very sad evening went to the then Home Minister PV Narasimha Rao and told him that the situation is so grave that it is necessary for the government to call the Army at the earliest.
