More than its contribution to economic development, food security is also part of robust defense systems. Food insecurity is a physical and psychological state. Five Reasons The Braves Won’t Repeat And Five Reasons They Will
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Baseball’s reigning World Champions are finding the road to repeating filled with potholes. The Atlanta Braves, for the second straight year, are struggling to stay afloat in a National League East they have won four years in a row. With Memorial Day weekend around the corner, the Braves have had more than their share of disappointments, including injuries, but also have reason to hope for better things soon. Here are five reasons they won’t become the first repeat world champions since the New York Yankees won three straight from 1998-2000: 1. No Freddie Freeman – After spending his entire 12-year career in Atlanta, the Face of the Franchise found himself without a job when the Braves traded four top prospects to the Oakland Athletics for fellow first baseman Matt Olson, an Atlanta native who’s younger and cheaper, in March. Barcelona Femení Set Another Women’s World Record Attendance At Camp Nou
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin They said it could not be done again, but just three weeks after breaking the 23-year-old world record for an attendance at a women's soccer match at Camp Nou, the largest stadium in Europe, FC Barcelona Femení drew an even larger crowd of 91,648 to the same venue to once more create sporting history. The European champions once more put on an exhibition of soccer, again scoring five goals in the first leg of the UEFA EFA Women's Champions League semi-final against German league leaders VfL Wolfsburg. The new figure still falls short of two crowd figures at the unofficial 1971 Women's World Cup in Mexico when a reported 100,000 watched the Opening Game of the tournament which was surpassed by the estimated 110,000 who saw the final between hosts Mexico and Denmark, both games were played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. However, as the competition did not fall within the jurisdiction of soccer's world … [Read more...] about Barcelona Femení Set Another Women’s World Record Attendance At Camp Nou
US pries into over 100 trader and banker phones in texting probe
Reuters filepix for illustration purpose only - A + A NEW YORK (May 18): The US is forcing Wall Street banks to embark on a systematic search through more than 100 personal mobile phones carried by top traders and dealmakers in the largest-ever probe into clandestine messaging on platforms such as WhatsApp. The Securities and Exchange Commission has been sending firms lists of key positions — in some cases pointing to around 30 people including heads of certain investment banking teams or trading desks — that are subject to the review, according to people with direct knowledge of the requests. Personnel in those roles are being ordered to hand over phones so devices can be examined by lawyers. The aim is to gauge how pervasively Wall Street professionals use unauthorized messaging platforms to chat with each other or clients as regulators decide which firms to punish, and how hard, for failing to preserve business-related messages sent via unapproved platforms. … [Read more...] about US pries into over 100 trader and banker phones in texting probe
Sri Lanka can’t find cash to pay even one ship for petrol
- A + A (May 18): Sri Lanka asked citizens not to queue for gasoline as the nation on the verge of default has no dollars to pay for a fuel shipment. “There is a petrol ship in our waters,” Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera told Parliament Wednesday. “We do not have the forex.” Sri Lanka “hopes” to release the ship “today or tomorrow,” the Minister said. The nation also owes the same supplier US$53 million for an earlier shipment of gasoline, he added, without elaborating. The island nation is in the worst economic tailspin of its independent history. Shortages of everything from food to cooking gas have resulted in Asia’s fastest inflation — with prices surging almost 30% — and spilling over into social unrest and political turmoil. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe — less than a week into the job — said on Monday the nation has only one day’s stock of gasoline and the government is working to obtain dollars in the open market to also pay for three ships … [Read more...] about Sri Lanka can’t find cash to pay even one ship for petrol
