I was at the border just this week . If President Joe Biden cared, he’d be there too. His Department of Homeland Security (DHS) quietly released its latest batch of catastrophic border numbers. More than 239,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended in May — the highest monthly total in DHS history. Taking a step back, this means a shocking 3.5 million illegal immigrants have now crossed into the U.S. since Biden took office. This is not normal, nor is it accidental. It is a cataclysmic destruction of our sovereign borders at the expense of the American people. Biden and his administration are to blame. In his first 100 days, Biden issued countless executive actions, including halting construction of the border wall and ending Trump’s successful “Remain in Mexico” policy under the banner of “compassion.” It was not Americans thanking him — but the illegal immigrants trying to cross over. Behind Ace Hotel Founder Alex Calderwood’s Creative Life And Untimely Death
You know the place, even if you haven’t been there. advertisement advertisement From the outside, it has a spare, severe look. But inside, past the flower stall and barbershop, the vibe is serene and hushed. Long tables and worn leather chairs invite people to cluster; the scent of locally roasted coffee mixes with the sound of the nearby photo booth, whirring in the background. There are vintage records on the shelves and slinky indie pop on the speakers, and the late afternoon sunlight makes puddles on the century-old wood floor. The feeling is both of the moment and timeless. To a remarkable extent, this place, the Ace Hotel, is the brainchild of a single man, a lean, mop-haired native of the Pacific Northwest named Alexander Calderwood. A kind of hipster polymath, he was able to look around the corners of culture and see what was coming years, if not decades, before everyone else. In his 20-year career, Calderwood cofounded a barbershop, a … [Read more...] about Behind Ace Hotel Founder Alex Calderwood’s Creative Life And Untimely Death
Where Does Stephen Curry Rank All-Time After Fourth NBA Championship?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Stephen Curry has no parallel. There is nobody like him in today’s pace-and-space era. If you teleported him into the 1980s or 90s, everyone in the NBA would think aliens had infiltrated Earth. His incomparable range, glitzy ball-handling, and spellbinding scoring prowess would not be of human form. Even in the modern league, the one he’s largely responsible for shifting, Curry is not replicable. Many players can mimic his style, or believe they have the same DNA and shooting touch to warrant a similar shot diet. But there is only one. And there are no duplicates of the greatest winner and leader of the last 10 years. Before 2014, nobody had struck the perfect balance between off-the-dribble wizardry and selfless off-ball principles – certainly not to the extent of being the focal point of the deadliest motion offense in history. In 75 years of the league’s existence, Curry is the only player – let alone … [Read more...] about Where Does Stephen Curry Rank All-Time After Fourth NBA Championship?

WHO Estimates Coronavirus Infected 10% Of World’s Population

SARS-CoV-2 Spike: A Potential Biomarker For Long Covid
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Ten to thirty percent of COVID-19 survivors face Long Covid, another battle after initial recovery. PASC, (post-acute sequelae of COVID-19) or PCC (Post-Covid Conditions) encompasses a wide range of symptoms which appear after the acute phase of COVID-19. These symptoms vary widely —from fatigue, chest pain, diarrhea and more—and the mechanisms are not well understood. At present, there is no clinical test to distinguish Long Covid from several other diseases. And because Long Covid can develop months after mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 cases, even the initial SARS-CoV-2 infection may not be confirmed. This leaves physicians and patients alike at a loss of what to do. Here inlies the urgent need for a reliable Long Covid biomarker. A biomarker, a measurable indication of a condition or disease, would remove much of the mystery surrounding the complex condition. The ability to confirm a diagnosis would provide … [Read more...] about SARS-CoV-2 Spike: A Potential Biomarker For Long Covid
Manchin ‘Trusted’ Gorsuch And Kavanaugh Not To Overturn Roe — Here’s How Key Lawmakers Reacted To Court’s Decision
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Democratic politicians lambasted the Supreme Court’s ruling Friday morning to overturn Roe v. Wade – leaving abortion bans up to individual states – as a “radical right-wing effort” and a “step backward,” while GOP members praised the decision as “courageous and correct.” Key Facts Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), who voted to confirm Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the court despite opposition from his party, said he was “alarmed they chose to reject the stability the ruling has provided” and that he had “trusted [them] when they testified under oath that they also believed Roe v. Wade was settled legal precedent.” Sen. Susan Collins , a pro-abortion rights Republican who voted to confirm all of former President Donald Trump’s nominees to the court, said it had “abandoned a 50-year precedent at a time that the country is desperate for stability,” while Sen. Box Office: Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Passes $900 Million Worldwide
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Paramount has announced that Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick has crossed $900 million at the global box office. It has earned $474.76 million domestic and $427.1 million overseas (without a penny from China, Russia or the Ukraine) for a $901.9 million global cume. That’s just 25 days in global theatrical release, which means that Tom Cruise’s insistence in a 120-day theatrical window is obviously paying off. We’ll see if the last two Mission: Impossible films (in summer 2023 and Fall 2024) are given similar treatment, but Cruise certainly has the high ground in terms of theatrical exclusivity. Oh, and the film will today or tomorrow pass China’s The Battle at Lake Changjin ($911 million) to become the third biggest Covid-era grosser behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($945 million) and Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.91 billion). It has Tom Cruise’s biggest opening weekend ($160.5 million domestic and … [Read more...] about Box Office: Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Passes $900 Million Worldwide
Trump Could Reshape The Federal Courts Dramatically
President-elect Donald Trump can substantively recast the direction of the federal courts from the earliest days of his administration, after two years of divided government have left vacancies open across the federal bench. Though the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court occasioned by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia is the most prominent of these vacancies, there are 104 total vacancies and 38 judicial emergencies in the federal courts as of this writing. A judicial emergency , as defined by the Judicial Conference of the United States, occurs when action items on a court’s docket exceed 6/700 per judge, or where a vacancy has lasted longer than 18 months and there are between 430-600 action items per judge. Some district court judges around the country are currently contending with dockets 1,200 filings long. Of the 104 current vacancies, one is on the Supreme Court, 13 are on the federal appeals courts, 82 are in U.S. district courts, and eight are in courts of special … [Read more...] about Trump Could Reshape The Federal Courts Dramatically
