In this instalment of Object In Focus , MA student Tim Tong speaks to Sarawak-based traditional storyteller Adrian Jo Milang, the descendant of a Kayan tattooist. Historically, the Kayan, an indigenous tribe from Sarawak, used tattoos to commemorate victories in battle or to recognise achievements in weaving, singing, and dancing. Tattoos were believed to guide the Kayan after death. Using three Kayan tattoo models from the museum, Tong and Milang explore if it’s possible to "listen" to the objects and how they might speak to the public for themselves.
