Hamilton: How Lin-Manuel Miranda Created A Hit Musical
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The musical Hamilton was a hit when it first debuted, but it crossed another level after its release on Disney+. While people continue to talk about the play itself, not enough people are talking about the story of how Lin-Manuel Miranda created Hamilton. You see, while Miranda’s story takes place in the world of the arts, it has many takeaways that are just as applicable in the business world. The Story Behind Hamilton Our story starts in 2009. Lin-Manuel Miranda had just read Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton and came up with an idea … for a rap mixtape. He began writing and tinkering on songs, with no plans for a full-blown musical. Shortly after this, Miranda received an invitation from President Barack Obama to perform a song from his first musical In The Heights at a White House poetry event. Lin did what any of us would do — say yes, pack his bags, and head to Washington DC. But … [Read more...] about Hamilton: How Lin-Manuel Miranda Created A Hit Musical
Musicals Make More Money on the Road than on Broadway

[+] Post via Getty Images) Getty The grass is actually greener on the other side. While box office revenues on Broadway have fallen in recent weeks as tourists left New York and the cold winter weather set in, box office revenues of Broadway shows touring across the nation are still quite high. In fact, some musicals made more money last week on the road than on Broadway. For example, while the Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen generated $1,272,935 in ticket sales over eight performances last week in New York, the show generated $1,477,161 in ticket sales over seven performances last week on tour in Seattle. The touring production filled up the Paramount Theatre, which has more than twice as many seats as the Music Box Theatre, where Dear Evan Hansen now performs on Broadway. The Fascinating Success Story Of The Cult-Hit Musical That Almost Didn’t Happen
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Be More Chill begins previews July 26 Be More Chill begins previews July 26 "Be More Chill" is a musical success story that almost didn't happen. The Off-Broadway show debuting later this month enjoyed modest success when it first premiered at Two River Theater in New Jersey in 2015. The production ran for six weeks and a cast album got made. Two years later, without warning or any particular prompt, fan interest took off in the form of an underground viral obsession, particularly among young people. Streams of the cast recording were downloaded more than a hundred million times and the blizzard of attention led to the revival opening July 26 at the Pershing Square Signature Center. I first heard about "Be More Chill" when my theater-loving teenager and his friends started singing the songs in the back seat on the way home from play rehearsal. They knew all the words and even the back story to a musical I … [Read more...] about The Fascinating Success Story Of The Cult-Hit Musical That Almost Didn’t Happen

Southern Cable proposes one-for-two bonus issue of warrants
- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 8): Southern Cable Group Bhd proposes to undertake bonus issue of warrants on the basis of one warrant for every two shares, hoping to raise as much as RM117.68 million for working capital. The amount expected to be raised from the five-year warrants is based on an indicative exercise price of 29.42 sen, which represents a discount of about 20% to 36.78 sen per share, the group’s five-day volume weighted average market price up to and including July 20 this year. India could scrap wheat import duty to cool domestic prices, say sources
- A + A MUMBAI (Aug 8): India could scrap a 40% duty on wheat imports and cap the amount of stocks traders can hold to try to dampen record high domestic prices in the world's second-biggest producer, government and trade officials told Reuters on Monday. Late in the day, the trade ministry said it would restrict the export of some wheat-derived products like finely milled "maida" and semolina from Aug 14, with only an inter-ministerial committee allowed to clear their shipment. Exports of the items are generally small. India barred wheat exports in May after the crop suffered a heatwave, but domestic prices still rose to a record high. Yet, international prices are still way above the domestic market, making it unviable for traders to buy from abroad. If the government does remove the duty, and international prices also fall, then traders say they could start importing, especially during the upcoming festival season, when higher demand typically drives domestic … [Read more...] about India could scrap wheat import duty to cool domestic prices, say sources

REUTERS FILE PHOTO BANGKOK — Nearly two-thirds of people in Thailand want Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to leave office this month, according to an opinion poll, which comes amid growing debate about how long the 2014 coup architect should stay in power.
