- A + A LONDON (June 29): Amazon.com Inc’s cloud-storage business is on a clear path toward a US$3 trillion value, almost triple what the whole company is worth now in the stock market, according to a Redburn Ltd analyst. The unit, Amazon Web Services, is so powerful that the company may decide at some point to split it off from the massive, slower-growing online retail operation, analyst Alex Haissl wrote in a 128-page report initiating coverage of the cloud-computing industry. He didn’t say when the US$3 trillion value may be achieved. “Separating AWS may not be on the table for now, but if the performance gap versus the non-AWS parts continues to widen, it could be on the table further down the road,” wrote Haissl, a former head of automotive research at Berenberg and Credit Suisse Group AG who began his career as a police officer in Vienna. Haissl recommends buying Amazon shares and sees the stock reaching US$270 in the next year, the highest target on … [Read more...] about Amazon cloud unit on course for US$3 tril value, Redburn says

KL Bar also opposes Najib’s QC bid, says no indication Najib lost confidence in Shafee to argue SRC case
- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (June 29): The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KL Bar), which represents about 10,000 lawyers in the capital, has also objected to Datuk Seri Najib Razak's bid to hire Jonathan Laidlaw, a lawyer from the United Kingdom, for his final appeal in the SRC International Sdn Bhd graft case. The KL Bar echoed the sentiment of the case's prosecution and the Malaysian bar that local lawyers, including Najib's own lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, are more than qualified to handle the case. There is also nothing to suggest that the former prime minister has lost confidence in Shafee to lead the final appeal of the graft case, in which Najib was convicted by the High Court in July 2020 of misappropriating RM42 million worth of funds from SRC, formerly a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd. Queen Elizabeth meets Sturgeon after new push for independence vote
LONDON (Reuters) - Queen Elizabeth held a meeting with Scotland's Nicola Sturgeon on Wednesday, a day after the Scottish leader set out plans to push for a second independence referendum to break away from the United Kingdom. Buckingham Palace said the 96-year-old queen, who is spending the week in Scotland, had received Sturgeon as well as a Scottish Parliament official in Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace. On Tuesday, Sturgeon, who is Scotland's first minister, announced plans for a second independence referendum to be held on October 2023, and vowed to take legal action if the British government blocks it. Voters in Scotland, which has a population of around 5.5 million, rejected independence by 55% to 45% in a referendum in 2014. The Scottish National Party, which runs Scotland's semi-autonomous government, says Britain's decision in a referendum in 2016 to leave the European Union - a move opposed by a majority of Scots - means the issue must be put to a second vote. The rise of remote work has drastically changed the relationship between companies and their employees. advertisement advertisement What began two years ago as a sudden shift to a work-from-home model has changed collaboration, coordination, and communication permanently. As companies work to find the right balance between flexible work and optimum productivity, the “hybrid” work model is being codified in company policies. Workers who joined Starbucks for transgender health benefits worry they are now at risk
Earlier this year, an Arizona woman whom we’ll call Kelly was completing the paperwork required to get facial feminization surgery. She was diagnosed with gender dysphoria in her teens, and after years of struggling with depression, she decided as a 20-something to transition. Then reality hit fast: The process is expensive, lengthy, and rarely covered by insurance. “So I did what lots of trans people do,” she tells Fast Company . “I got a job at Starbucks.” advertisement advertisement Starbucks has covered some types of gender-reassignment surgery since 2012. Tesla Factories Actually Burn Through Skepticism
