Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin March Madness continues into the last weekend in March with the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight. The match-ups and betting lines are set along with updated odds to win the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Opening round college basketball games saw record March Madness wagering by tens of millions of fans. A majority of them saw their brackets get busted when No. 1 Purdue and No. 2 Arizona lost in major upsets in the opening round. Then No. 1 Kansas was next to fall in the Round of 32 along with No. 2 Marquette. No. 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson was the biggest point spread upset in NCAA Tournament history since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985, and just the second No. 16 seed to every knock off No. 1. Bern’s Restaurant In Tampa Is One Of The World’s Best Steakhouses
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There are a handful of eateries so notable I feel like when I travel to the cities they are in I absolutely have to eat there or it’s a wasted culinary trip. Examples would include the nation’s best pizzeria, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco (before you argue, read this ), Casa Julian outside San Sebastian Spain ( read more here ), and the original muffuletta sandwich at the place it was invented, Central Grocery in New Orleans. Tampa’s most famous restaurant, Bern’s Steakhouse , also makes this list. I just returned to Tampa for the first time in years to catch a couple of Yankees spring training games, and even before I bought airline tickets I made a reservation for Bern’s way in advance, because they are always really hard to get. But if any travel takes you to Tampa, it is absolutely worth the effort. I have covered restaurants for decades and especially steakhouses, and there are a lot of great ones … [Read more...] about Bern’s Restaurant In Tampa Is One Of The World’s Best Steakhouses
Practice Makes Pretty Close To Perfect At Benjamin’s Steakhouse In Manhattan
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin An old German proverb says, “If everything be done twice, everything would be done better.” Imagine then, if everything were done a thousand, ten thousand or a hundred thousand times with all due diligence, how marvelous something could be. More than any kind of restaurant, an American steakhouse is capable of such feats of consistent excellence, even with a broad menu. Unless complacency creeps in, repeating and tweaking items as humble as onion rings and creamed spinach thousands of time each week is going to pretty much assure they are every bit as good this year as last or next. Of course, the argument begins and ends with great beef of a kind that USDA Prime used to be the epitome. Alas, no longer, since that rating is now stamped on meat that would once have been considered mere Choice. The beef once only available in the best New York steakhouses like Peter Luger, Palm and Christ Cella is now rarely found … [Read more...] about Practice Makes Pretty Close To Perfect At Benjamin’s Steakhouse In Manhattan
Pati Jinich On Pairing Tequila, Mexican Identity, And Her Award-Winning TV Shows
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Mexico City-born chef Pati Jinich , an award-winning cookbook author and television host based in Washington, D.C., talks about the longevity of her PBS show, her latest projects and what it means to be a Mexican in the U.S., and shares her pairing suggestions for tequila and Mexican cuisine. Claudia Alarcón: So, you’re starting the 12th season of your James Beard awarded PBS series, Pati's Mexican Table. Congratulations! Pati Jinich: Can you believe it? It has been such a beautiful experience because one misses Mexico so much. The nostalgia and romanticism that we Mexicans have for the Mexico we left behind is so strong, isn't it? And Pati's Mexican Table has not just allowed me to build a bridge between Mexico and the United States. I used to think that the program was to bring Mexico to the United States, but as the years went by I realized that it was a bridge to also make Mexico known to Mexicans, because now … [Read more...] about Pati Jinich On Pairing Tequila, Mexican Identity, And Her Award-Winning TV Shows
