Korean companies may walk away from CHIPS Act money
The U.S. President Joe Biden signs the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC on August 9, 2022. [AFP/YONHAP] The United States is pushing foreign chip makers to disclose sensitive business data, including yield rates, to receive subsidies under the CHIPS and Science Act. Onerous is the requirement that some companies might decide not to apply for funding. The yield rate, the amount of a silicon wafer that is successfully made into dies, is considered a key indicator to determine a chip producer's manufacturing capabilities. It is often confidential. Other required information includes production capacity for each wafer, operation rates, estimated production yields, semiconductor prices on first-year production, annual production figures and the increase or decrease rate of the cost. Celltrion founder and chairman Seo Jung-jin speaks about his plan for the company during a press conference Wednesday, a day after returning to the management. [CELLTRION] Celltrion is working to further develop its own drug repertoire, not just that of its drug biosimilars. About 40 percent of its annual revenues will come from original drugs in 2030, with the remaining 60 percent from traditional cash cow biosimilar products. These were a few of the plans announced by founder Seo Jung-jin as part of his efforts to help Celltrion shares rebound from its years of being in a slump. Seo was appointed as the co-chairman of Celltrion Holdings and three listed Celltrion companies — Celltrion, Celltrion Pharm and Celltrion Healthcare — during a shareholder meeting Tuesday, after two years after he walked away from the management. His return came upon the request of current management executives as Celltrion shares more than halved from their peak, and shares of Celltrion Pharm … [Read more...] about Celltrion to refine its own drug repertoire to recover from slump
Biden’s World Bank Pick Calls For ‘Trillions’ In Climate Spending
Ajay Banga, the former CEO of Mastercard that President Joe Biden has nominated to head the World Bank, told Axios Wednesday that both the bank and the private sector needed to spend “trillions” to combat both climate change and poverty. Banga has been aggressively campaigning for the job, meeting with officials from 37 different governments in the past three weeks, Axios reported . The World Bank faces competing pressure from wealthy and developing countries over whether to focus on combating climate change or poverty mitigation, but Banga said he does not view the two goals as inherently opposed to one another. (RELATED: Major Banks Bend The Knee To Climate Activists, Accelerate Plans To Cut Coal Investments) “I think it’s a fallacious argument that says, either-or,” Banga said to Axios. “I have every intention of focusing the bank and its people on the idea that this is an intertwined challenge.” The efforts to combat both climate change and poverty would cost … [Read more...] about Biden’s World Bank Pick Calls For ‘Trillions’ In Climate Spending
Zooming Wine Into Your Home
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin My wife and I really enjoy wine tasting. We’ve driven up to 50 miles away, to visit several local wineries the past five years. Yes, it’s interesting learning about various wines, winemaking processes and each vineyard. Ultimately, though, it’s still all about drinking the vino, socializing with friends, enjoying the views, and having a good time. Of course, the issue always comes up about who’s going to drive because let’s face it, someone’s wine tasting needs to be cut short so they can be the designated driver back from what’s usually a remote location. But I recently came across a wine tasting platform that not only eliminates that problem, but makes the experience much easier and more convenient. Sommsation is a two-year-old company offering virtual wine tastings. It came about during the pandemic, but curiously not because it was a form of physically distanced wine tasting. “We set out to build a modern wine … [Read more...] about Zooming Wine Into Your Home
Name Change Celebrates Inclusive Future For Seattle Audubon Society
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The non-profit organisation, Seattle Audubon Society, has formally changed its name and will now be known as Birds Connect Seattle © Copyright by GrrlScientist | hosted by Forbes Last August, I told you about the Seattle Audubon Society , a community-based bird conservation and birding organisation where I was a member, and its decision to change its name to be more inclusive to people from all walks of life (more here ). They’ve made their choice to formally change their name to “Birds Connect Seattle”. That’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it? This bold decision contrasts with the National Audubon Society ’s recent decision, reached after one year of deliberations, namely, not to change their name. “I understand people may be wondering how that is possible if ‘Audubon’ remains in our name. That is a question the Board has grappled with, and ultimately, they decided that the organization transcends … [Read more...] about Name Change Celebrates Inclusive Future For Seattle Audubon Society
From Super Speed To Super Convenient: The Maturity Curve Around Customer Shopping Behavior
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As the world settles after the pandemic and a new wave of change ripples through the global economy, understanding the benefits of convenient delivery is more essential for businesses in the retail industry than ever. Especially for last mile delivery, a flexible and seamless process is essential in helping customers receive the services they expect. A recent study published by MIT Sloan Management Review found that retailers providing customers with the options of delivery on a specific day and time, were more valued than deliveries made in shorter time periods. The study also concluded that consumers are even willing to wait longer for a delivery, as long as they can receive the product when and where they choose. Clearly, consumers now value convenience over speed, a trend that is becoming more prevalent today. In a recent interview with Guy Bloch, CEO of Bringg – the market leading delivery management platform … [Read more...] about From Super Speed To Super Convenient: The Maturity Curve Around Customer Shopping Behavior
Why It’s Hard, But Necessary, To Be Human At Work
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Last fall, the top 250 executives of a major, global telecommunications company gathered together for a three-day leadership summit. The summit kicked off with a strong call to action by the CEO. Even with the company’s growth, strong performance, and market dominance, the CEO exhorted the leaders gathered in front of him to work harder and to do even better. Seventy-two hours later, the CEO took the stage again, but this time he delivered a different message. The company would continue to drive performance and deliver results, he shared, but care would be at the core of the company’s strategy. “Performance” and “care” would be intertwined – two vital and necessary elements for the company’s long-term health and viability. Though the speed was remarkable, this kind of pivot was not unique to this CEO. A year ago, we published our research into a human-centered model of leadership in a book called Compassionate Leadership: … [Read more...] about Why It’s Hard, But Necessary, To Be Human At Work
Why Employers Forcing A Return To Office Is Leading To More Worker Power And Unionization
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Angry and dismayed Amazon employees are pushing back against the recently-announced return to office policy by the Amazon leadership. Amazon's policy joins other high-profile companies such as Disney, Starbucks, Tesla, Google, and others that are forcing employees back to the office. Some are claiming they need to do so for the sake of productivity. For example, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, claimed that those working remotely only " pretend to work " and are "phoning it in." Others say you need to be in the office to innovate: Disney's CEO Bob Iger demanded the return to the office because "nothing can replace the ability to connect, observe, and create with peers that comes from being physically together." So what explains the situation? As a globally-known expert in the field of hybrid and remote work , I have seen firsthand how working remotely, whether part of the week or full-time, enables worker … [Read more...] about Why Employers Forcing A Return To Office Is Leading To More Worker Power And Unionization
