The Brooklyn Nets are running the risk of alienating star forward Kevin Durant as they proceed with contract negotiations with guard Kyrie Irving, ESPN reported Wednesday. Still left for Irving to decide is a contract option for 2022-23 at $36.9 million. He has a deadline of June 29 to make his decision, either returning for another season in Brooklyn or becoming a free agent. As a free agent, Irving could have interest from the Los Angeles Lakers , Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat or even the New York Knicks, among other teams. The Nets might even be interested signing Irving to a short-term deal if he opts out of the final year of the current contract. According to the report, though, Irving’s negotiation leverage derives from the concept that Durant’s relationship with the front office could be strained if the Nets decide to take hardline negotiation tactics. Policy Talk | Startups need to define their vision as an industry
Yatish Rajawat – What was your objective in writing the book and what do you think is its impact? Harish Mehta - I’ll go back to say, 3 years, when I was reading books of RBI governors, IAS officers, politicians, etc. I have been involved with NASSCOM from the beginning and have seen how NASSCOM and the IT industry have evolved and how India has changed, I’m very proud of what everyone has done in this process. However, I didn’t see any of those books giving any credit to our industry - NASSCOM is not even listed anywhere, leave alone its contribution. There is an African proverb you may remember or know, “If lions had historians the tales of hunting would be different.” So that drove me to write the book about the story of how the IT industry changed. Like Dr. Sumant Rao Bhosre used to say, 1000 years of the downward spiral of India was arrested by the IT industry of India. NASSCOM was the sutradhar driving it. So that is what I used as a theme in my book. We have put our … [Read more...] about Policy Talk | Startups need to define their vision as an industry
Despite Assurances From The White House, Washington Can’t Stop Talking About Replacing Biden
While the White House continues to assure the country that President Joe Biden plans to run again in 2024, concerns over his age and how he’s handled multiple crises are sparking speculation over who else could make a ploy for office. Biden has been plagued with a series of crises since taking office – a disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan, record-high inflation, skyrocketing gas prices, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a baby formula shortage and more. How he’s handled each situation is reflected in his poll numbers, which recently slipped for the fourth straight week, according to a Reuters-Ipsos poll published Wednesday. What’s more, concern is growing over Biden’s age. Currently 79 years old, the president will be 81 if he runs again in 2024. Entrepreneur and former Democratic presidential primary candidate Andrew Yang told The Hill on Wednesday that Biden’s “age will be a legitimate issue for many voters,” pointing out that he’s “already the oldest president we’ve had … [Read more...] about Despite Assurances From The White House, Washington Can’t Stop Talking About Replacing Biden
Roe V. Wade Has Completely Transformed The Midterms – Here’s How
The abortion debate has become a major focus in the midterms after a leaked draft decision from the Supreme Court indicated Roe v. Wade will be overturned. “[Democrats are] gonna use every single dirty trick in the book, so I do think that we should be a little more on the offensive,” Carson Steelman, press secretary for Heritage Action, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. Multiple Republicans in battleground states have emphasized that little will change in their state if Roe was thrown out, while Democrats have argued the opposite. Both Republicans and Democrats have been forced to reconfigure their election strategies only six months before the midterms due to the unprecedented leak from the Supreme Court indicating Roe v. Wade will be overturned. Many Democrats have made clear they intend to hammer opponents across the aisle on the implications of Roe being overturned and while Republicans have celebrated the decision, several have largely focused on the leak … [Read more...] about Roe V. Moneycontrol Pro Panorama | No quick fix for inflation
Representative image Dear Reader , The Panorama newsletter is sent to Moneycontrol Pro subscribers on market days. It offers easy access to stories published on Moneycontrol Pro and gives a little extra by setting out a context or an event or trend that investors should keep track of. Inflation is the topic of the moment, not just for central bankers, but also for households, markets, governments and corporates. In fact, companies have been taking innovative steps to tackle it. For India, inflation traditionally has a lot to do with energy prices, though food prices have also played their part. This time around too, fuel-led inflation has impacted the country, but at the same time high fuel prices and commodity prices along with logistic issues on account of the Russia-Ukraine war have resulted in fertiliser prices shooting up. The government has tried to absorb the impact of higher fertiliser costs by extending subsidies. Fertiliser subsidy during the year is … [Read more...] about Moneycontrol Pro Panorama | No quick fix for inflation

REUTERS/Adnan Abidi (INDIA - Tags: POLITICS ELECTIONS) - GM1EA5K1GOD01 Eight years ago, on May 26, 2014, Narendra Modi was sworn-in as India’s Prime Minister after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a landslide victory in the general elections. A few days prior to this, Modi, as Prime Minister-designate, went to Parliament and entered the Central Hall for the first time. In a now popular photograph, Modi is seen bowing and touching the stairs with his forehead leading to the Parliament building as a mark of respect to the “ temple of democracy ”. Australian Mining Billionaire Touts A Green Revolution In U.S. Coal Country — With Skepticism Trailing Close Behind
Andrew Forrest travels the globe trying to persuade leaders of industry and politics — and rank-and-file workers — that despite his polluting past he’s the man to champion green hydrogen as the clean fuel of the future. M ore than a couple of the dozen or so coal-plant workers gathered at West Virginia’s Pleasants Power Station in April to hear Andrew Forrest push his green hydrogen agenda rolled their eyes as he spoke. “I believe this coal-fired power station has a huge future,” the Australian mining billionaire told them. The employees could be forgiven for their skepticism. Just weeks before, they learned their plant, surrounded by other closures throughout coal country, would be the latest to shut down . Forrest’s message was heartfelt, contrarian and a bit pie in the sky. In West Virginia, the second-largest coal-producing region in the U.S., Forrest told the workers that 22 of the state’s 26 coal-powered plants could be converted to green hydrogen plants. Investing in Wine With the NBA’s Elite Players
It's reality check time and we are opening the holiday-shortened trading week in a bear market in the S&P 500 after U.S. stocks had their worst week last week since March of 2020. The Federal Reserve hiked the federal funds rate by three quarters of a percent last week as it tries to cool inflation. I know, I said that would be "out of character" and "off script" on last week's podcast . So, you know the situation is pretty serious, and the Federal Reserve does not have inflation under control. No central bank does, for that matter. It's going to take aggressive interest rate hikes to get to what the Fed calls a normal rate environment (3.4%), which means we may very well see another 75 basis point hike at the Fed's next meeting in July. While that 3.4% may be normal, if you look at the last 50 years, it is not normal when you look at the past decade, which has been characterized by accommodative monetary policy via low interest rates and low inflation well under 2%. This is new … [Read more...] about Investing in Wine With the NBA’s Elite Players
10 years after its demise, a requiem for the Microsoft Zune, the little gadget that couldn’t
Though it’s largely been lost to the fog of history, the inaugural scandal of Barack Obama’s presidency centered not on civilian-drone casualties or the bailout of a slumping economy, but on the incoming commander-in-chief’s Microsoft Zune. advertisement advertisement The transgression came in late 2008, just after his election, while his transition team was busy readying the White House and the nation for the promise of hope, change, and cool. An alt-weekly reporter spotted an athleisured Obama on a treadmill in Philadelphia, the cord of his headphones running down to—of all things—a Zune. “OBAMA ZUNE-ACY,” squawked a New York Post headline . “The president-elect has been spotted listening to the least cool MP3 player on the market,” The Guardian declared. Multiple days of humiliating Zunegate coverage culminated in an advisor’s official ass-covering: An Obama spokesperson claimed that the president-elect typically … [Read more...] about 10 years after its demise, a requiem for the Microsoft Zune, the little gadget that couldn’t
