Crypto’s Great Reset: How Digital Asset Investors Will Recover From The Market’s $1 Trillion Meltdown

May 17, 2022 by www.forbes.com

The bottom fell out from one of crypto’s fastest growing blockchains, LUNA, which promised to succeed where bitcoin failed. Its predictable collapse reverberated across the entire crypto market and is forcing investors to pick up the pieces. C rypto’s history has been defined by five resets. The first came in 2014 when what was basically the only bitcoin exchange in the world, Mt. Gox, imploded following a nearly half-billion-dollar hack. The second, in 2016, was The DAO hack, when an attacker tricked a smart contract into giving away $60 million worth of ethereum, worth $8 billion today. The third, in January 2018, occurred when the ICO bubble popped, starting a year-long decline wiping out 60% of the crypto market or more than $700 million mostly in the form of worthless junk tokens. The fourth took place in March 2020 when crypto lost 40% of its value along with most other global financial markets. Each reset not only led to price-market capitalization increases, they … [Read more...] about Crypto’s Great Reset: How Digital Asset Investors Will Recover From The Market’s $1 Trillion Meltdown

May 6, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The war in Ukraine, skyrocketing inflation and soaring commodity prices have combined to create the perfect setting for macro hedge funds this year, and most of them have taken advantage of it. Investors also expected robust returns from macro funds, so they have already poured billions of dollars into the strategy year to date. However, there is one other hedge fund strategy that's outperforming macro year to date, and that's managed futures. Macro events boost macro hedge funds According to a report from With Intelligence released last week, the HFM Macro Index was up 3% for the first quarter and 5.7% for the 12 months ending in March. Managed futures funds returned 7.7% for the first quarter and 5.5% for March. The HFM Global Composite was roughly flat for the first quarter, down 0.1%, while U.S. stocks declined 4.9%. Shutdown News and FOMC Speculation Lift Stocks

May 19, 2021 by www.investopedia.com

Semiconductor stocks have had an interesting two days. On Thursday, seemingly the entire industry moved higher in anticipation of a strong earnings announcement from Intel Corporation ( INTC ) after the closing bell. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Intel missed revenue estimates by $360 million and GAAP earnings estimates by $0.04 per share – coming in at $18.66 billion and $1.12 per share, respectively. As a result of the miss, Intel shares plunged lower in trading on Friday, dropping 5.47% to close at $47.04. Interestingly, the rest of the industry kept right on climbing higher. Micron Technology, Inc. ( MU ) jumped 6.48%, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. ( AMD ) rose 5.18%, Xilinx, Inc. ( XLNX ) bounced 4.06% and Qorvo, Inc. ( QRVO ) climbed 3.76%. These bullish moves indicate that traders are confident enough in the sustained strength of the global economy and the potential of a softening in trade talks between the United States and China to shrug off the … [Read more...] about Shutdown News and FOMC Speculation Lift Stocks

Will Falling Interest Rates Boost or Spook the Stock Market?

May 19, 2021 by www.investopedia.com

Major Moves I've been talking a lot about the 10-year Treasury yield (TNX) during the past few weeks because it has been experiencing a rather dramatic decline, falling to levels not seen since December 2017. One of the reasons I reference the TNX so frequently is it is tied to a variety of assets, indexes and indicators in the financial markets, including the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage . The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is the most popular mortgage among individual home buyers. According to Freddie Mac, approximately 90% of home buyers choose a 30-year mortgage when financing their homes. So what's the connection between the TNX and the rate on a 30-year mortgage? These two rates have a positive correlation. When the TNX moves higher, the 30-year mortgage rate tends to move higher. Conversely, when the TNX moves lower, the 30-year mortgage rate tends to move lower. In fact, these two rates move so consistently together that mortgage brokers will often approximate what the … [Read more...] about Will Falling Interest Rates Boost or Spook the Stock Market?

For Chin Hin, Solarvest is the goose that lays the golden egg

September 21, 2020 by www.theedgemarkets.com

This article first appeared in The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on September 7, 2020 - September 13, 2020. - A + A IT would not be an exaggeration to say that Solarvest Holdings Bhd is the goose that lays the golden egg for building materials distributor Chin Hin Group Bhd. Founded by low-profile businessman and savvy investor Datuk Seri Chiau Beng Teik, Chin Hin is one of the largest companies in its sector. The group reported a net profit of RM7.47 million in its second quarter ended June 30 (2QFY2020) after recording a disposal gain of RM27.8 million from divesting 25 million shares in Solarvest, representing a 6.4% stake, at RM1.25 apiece. Excluding this one-off item, Chin Hin was expected to report a core net loss of RM20.3 million in 2Q, given that all of its business divisions sank into the red as a result of plant shutdowns and reduced activity on the back of the Movement Control Order (MCO). Bursa Malaysia filings show that Chin Hin disposed of 20 … [Read more...] about For Chin Hin, Solarvest is the goose that lays the golden egg

ESG Is The Third Wave Of Change In Asset Management After Graham And MPT

March 28, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Investing with an environmental , social or governance (ESG) focus has captured the attention of more and more investors and fund managers in recent years, but 2021 marked a major milestone for the strategy. Declaring 2021 to be "the year of ESG investing," Reuters reported in December that the year saw record inflows to ESG-focused funds. Thirty years of ESG investing According to data from Refinitiv Lipper, investors poured a record $649 billion into ESG funds around the globe during the first 11 months of 2021, up from the $542 billion invested in such funds in 2020 and $285 billion in 2019. Ten percent of the assets invested in funds worldwide are now in ESG funds. Clearly, ESG investing is not a fad that will go away anytime soon, but it's also not a new idea. In fact, ESG investing has been around for at least three decades. Amy Domini , one of Time's 100 Most Influential People, started one of the first … [Read more...] about ESG Is The Third Wave Of Change In Asset Management After Graham And MPT

Occidental Petroleum Stock Plunges, but S&P 500 Rallies Into Close

May 19, 2021 by www.investopedia.com

Major Moves The majority of the stocks in the S&P 500 lost ground today as traders attempted to quantify and make adjustments for the uncertain risk they face with the Trump administration's tariff deadline looming at 12:01 a.m. Friday morning. The risk is uncertain because nobody knows if the Trump administration is going to go through with tariff increase. The U.S. Trade Representative's (USTR) office filed paperwork on Wednesday to raise tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods from 10% to 25%, but that doesn't mean the administration has to pull the trigger. However, the S&P 500 component that lost the most ground today didn't drop because of uncertain tariff risks. It fell because it faces easily quantifiable risks – 38 billion of them to be precise. Until today, Occidental Petroleum Corporation ( OXY ) had been in a bidding war with Chevron Corporation ( CVX ) for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation ( APC ). Chevron originally bid $33 billion for Anadarko, … [Read more...] about Occidental Petroleum Stock Plunges, but S&P 500 Rallies Into Close

Daily Voice | It’s time to start investing lumpsum into markets, says Aashish Somaiyaa of WhiteOak Capital

May 18, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

With more than 12 percent corrections just behind us, this is time to start investing in lumpsum and there are possibilities of good inflows at these levels, but it would be foolhardy to assume that the market sentiment would not impact the investors' mood. Markets have quickly factored in most of the tightening, argues Aashish P Somaiyaa, CEO at WhiteOak Capital Asset Management, while sharing his views on the market trends during an interaction with Moneycontrol . "To make money, one needs to be counter-cyclical but exaggerated moves in the markets evoke emotional reaction in investors, that’s natural. Humans are not logical, they are psychological as is written by Rory Sutherland in his book, Alchemy: The Surprising Power of Ideas That Don't Make Sense ," he says. Excerpts from the interaction: How do you approach the market after it rebounded from over 12 percent correction in the last one-and-a-half-months? Close Around 5-10 percent correction from … [Read more...] about Daily Voice | It’s time to start investing lumpsum into markets, says Aashish Somaiyaa of WhiteOak Capital
