March is “Women’s History Month,” and to celebrate it the Democratic National Committee turned its Twitter feed over to New York Congresswoman and DNC Vice Chair Grace Meng for a tweet storm Tuesday. Meng sent tweets to draw attention to “an important economic justice issue,” access to tampons for homeless women and prisoners. Hi Twitter — @Grace4NY here. I’m a DNC Vice Chair, and in the spirit of #WomensHistoryMonth , I’m taking over @TheDemocrats Twitter today to talk about why access to feminine hygiene products is an important economic justice issue. – @Grace4NY — The Democrats (@TheDemocrats) March 27, 2018 Women deserve equal access to our economy, not punishment for their gender. That’s why I’ve been working with my fellow women to fight for more access to tampons, pads, and the full range of menstrual products since 2015. – @Grace4NY — The Democrats (@TheDemocrats) March 27, 2018 I’ve introduced legislation to make these products more affordable — … [Read more...] about Democrats Celebrate Women’s History Month By Calling For ‘Economic Justice’ In ‘Feminine Hygiene Products’

Ola Electric gets takedown notice from customer after making telemetry data public
An Ola electric scooter. A tussle between Ola Electric and a customer who had an accident while riding the company’s electric scooter has escalated into allegations of breach of privacy and integrity of data. The customer has sent a takedown notice to Ola Electric for allegedly violating privacy laws by publishing the scooter’s telemetry data on social media. The notice is in addition to claims by the customer about the vehicle’s allegedly faulty brakes and has drawn more flak for Ola, which is grappling with the issue of a vehicle catching fire and has recalled over 1,400 electric scooters to conduct 'diagnostic and health check'. The latest controversy dates back to March 26, when lawyer Reetam Singh was riding his father’s brand new Ola S1 Pro late at night on the Khanapara Highway in Guwahati, Assam. He claimed that he was riding at about 60 kmph when he spotted a speed-breaker. He alleged that when he applied the brakes, the scooter’s speed increased and he lost … [Read more...] about Ola Electric gets takedown notice from customer after making telemetry data public
Explainer| Why are doctors at loggerheads with Centre to get NEET PG postponed?
Representative image (Source: https://www.pexels.com/) After repeated pleas by a large number of doctors wishing to pursue their postgraduate degrees to defer the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Postgraduate) or NEET PG, scheduled for May 21, failed to move the government, the students have filed a petition in the Supreme Court to postpone the examination. The case is up for hearing on May 13. NEET PG is the qualifying exam for those who have passed their MBBS level to take up broad speciality courses in medicine. But why do the majority of students who are to appear in the NEET PG this year and are backed by various students’ associations apart from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) want the examination put off by a few weeks? Also, why is the National Board of Examination under the Union health ministry which conducts NEET PG not ready to budge from its stand? We try to explain everything here. Languedoc In Southern France: Quality Wines Minus The Prestige Means Great Value
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The price of a wine is, to some extent, determined by supply and demand. But supply can be plentiful, and the prices still soar. I don’t have a problem with expensive wines. They are easy to avoid. The challenge for a wine lover lies in finding exceptional wines at a reasonable cost, wines where prestige plays a minor role and it’s all about great flavour and character. There are many of these wines around. But they are harder to find than the super-expensive ones. At the extensive wine fair Wine Paris in February, we met four of our favourites from the Languedoc region in southern France. These four producers are exceptional value for money. Domaine du Nouveau Monde, Languedoc Domaine L’Arbuselle, Faugères Domaine Rouanet Montcelebre, Minervois Domaine des Terres Georges, Minervois (All prices mentioned in the text are for purchases at the estates.) The Three “E”s Of Direct Air Capture: Essential, Evolving, And Everlasting
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It was a great pleasure and honor to have been asked by the Foundation for Climate Restoration to moderate an expert panel on Direct Air Capture (DAC) at the end of April as part of the Foundation’s Solution Series . The panelists – Merritt Dailey, Celina Scott-Buechler, and Chris Neidl – were terrific and I not only learned a lot from them, I also received a much-needed dose of climate inspiration. Among the big take-aways for me is how quickly the DAC industry has grown over the past few years. When I started learning about DAC, there were really only three (really two and a half) firms in this market. Now, just three years later, according to Chris Neidl, there are over 50 DAC firms, all with different technological approaches to solving the problem of capturing diffuse CO2, refining it, and either sequestering or incorporating it into other products or processes. This panel served as a prompt for me to re-engage … [Read more...] about The Three “E”s Of Direct Air Capture: Essential, Evolving, And Everlasting
Dollar’s strength pushes world economy deeper into slowdown
Representative image The soaring dollar is propelling the global economy deeper into a synchronized slowdown by driving up borrowing costs and stoking financial-market volatility -- and there’s little respite on the horizon. A closely watched gauge of the greenback has risen 7% since January to a two-year high as the Federal Reserve embarks on an aggressive series of interest-rate increases to curb inflation and investors have bought dollars as a haven amid economic uncertainty. A rising currency should help the Fed cool prices and support American demand for goods from abroad, but it also threatens to drive up the import prices of foreign economies, further fueling their inflation rates, and sap them of capital. That’s especially worrying for emerging economies, which are being forced to either allow their currencies to weaken, intervene to cushion their slide, or raise their own interest rates in a bid to buttress their foreign exchange levels. Earth Stands ‘50:50’ Chance Of Passing 1.5 Degrees Warming Within 5 Years
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Global average temperatures now have a roughly fifty-fifty chance of temporarily rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius beyond pre-industrial levels within five years, according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization. The 1.5 degree figure represents an important threshold, as it is nominally the preferred warming limit set by the 2015 Paris Agreement—a limit that nations hope will be sufficient to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. According to the Global Annual to Decadal Climate Update released by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the period 2017-2021 saw only a 10% chance of 1.5 degrees being exceeded. But for 2022, that likelihood now stands at 48%. “This study shows—with a high level of scientific skill—that we are getting measurably closer to temporarily reaching the lower target of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change,” said Petteri Taalas, WMO Secretary-General. “Our … [Read more...] about Earth Stands ‘50:50’ Chance Of Passing 1.5 Degrees Warming Within 5 Years
