Angelique S. Chengelis The Detroit News Published 1:23 PM EDT Mar 26, 2019 Former Michigan linebacker Devin Bush Jr. doesn’t care some critics think he’s too small to be a force in the NFL. Apparently, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper also doesn’t think that’s an issue. Kiper, in his latest mock NFL Draft, gave Bush a significant bump after his NFL Combine performance, where he ran a 4.43 40-yard dash. Bush is at No. 11 to Cincinnati, from No. 30 in Kiper’s previous mock draft, and Kiper said during a conference call Tuesday he is one of the top players in the draft pool. Bush definitely raised his draft profile after the Combine and has attached this hashtag — #undersized — to his Instagram posts. The 5-foot-11, 233-pound Bush was the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year last season. Kirkland Crawford Detroit Free Press Published 1:38 PM EST Feb 18, 2019 ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. published his second mock draft on Monday because ... well, why not? Detroit Lions fans and observers may be more intrigued with Kiper's prediction for the eighth overall pick in April's draft. A month ago, Kiper had the Lions taking LSU linebacker Devin White. Now? Say hello to Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson. "Hockenson (6-5, 250) is a complete player who can run routes out of the slot on one play, then line up next to a tackle and blow up an edge defender in the running game on the next," Kiper wrote. "I'm not going to call him a Rob Gronkowski clone, but there are similarities, particularly when you see each as blockers." For what it's worth, Free Press sports writer Dave Birkett highlighted Hockenson as someone to watch for the Lions ... in the second round. Lions mailbag: Here's who I'd pick at No. 8 in NFL draft Hockenson, who entered the draft … [Read more...] about NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions take TE in first round?

On Thursday this week, the original "draftnik," ESPN's Mel Kiper, published his first mock draft of the offseason . I can say with a high level of certainty that it will be very, very wrong. Mock drafts are what they are – a good way to learn a little something about the top prospects who will be selected in or around the first round of the draft. If you're looking for accuracy, forget it. This isn't to goof on Kiper – OK, maybe a tiny bit – but as we did last year, let's take a look at who your team would have drafted if Kiper were 100 percent accurate on his first mock drafts since 2010: NFC EAST Kiper: LB Navorro Bowman, OT Gabe Carimi, LB Luke Kuechly, CB Dee Milliner, WR Kelvin Benjamin, CB Marcus Peters, DT Robert Nkemdiche, CB Quincy Wilson, OT Kolton Miller. Actual: DE Brandon Graham, OG Danny Watkins, DT Fletcher Cox, Lane Johnson, OLB Marcus Smith, WR Nelson Agholor, QB Carson Wentz, DE Derek Barnett. Kiper: OT Bruce Campbell, CB … [Read more...] about Your team’s first round picks since 2010, if Mel Kiper’s initial mock drafts were perfect
Justin Rogers The Detroit News Published 11:15 AM EST Jan 17, 2019 With the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator search wrapped up, it's time to shift focus to the roster-building components of the offseason, namely free agency and the draft. Thankfully, Mel Kiper is happy to help. The longtime ESPN analyst released his first mock draft Thursday morning, and in it he has the Lions selecting LSU linebacker Devin White. "This is a spot to watch for a pass-rusher, as the Lions could part ways with free agent Ezekiel Ansah," Kiper writes. "In fact, coach Matt Patricia could use improvements at every level of his defense. White is a fly-to-the-football linebacker with similar athletic traits as Detroit middle linebacker Jarrad Davis, who was taken in the first round in 2017. The two could form a stellar tandem, as both are three-down linebackers. White isn't a true pass-rusher, but he makes plays in the backfield." That blurb isn't likely to inspire … [Read more...] about Detroit Lions take linebacker Devin White in Mel Kiper’s mock draft
