If the Phillies want to get stupid with their money, now is definitely the time. Manny Machado's decision on where to play next season (and for the foreseeable future) could come down any day now, and while the Yankees appear to be the infielder's preference, the Phillies may be offering him some things their northern neighbors can't, or at least aren't willing to.First, as we mentioned on Saturday, the Phillies are reportedly willing to let Machado play shortstop, despite the addition of Jean Segura. But that's not all. The Phillies also may be willing to include the most amount of years of any of the teams currently bidding on the 26-year-old free agent — the Yankees, for example, reportedly believe eight years is enough. And most importantly, according to Jon Heyman, the Phillies may also be offering the most money. Now, it's already been well documented that Machado likes the idea of playing in New York, but that's assuming the offers are all the same. If the … [Read more...] about Live free agency updates: Phillies may have the highest offer to Machado, plus the latest MLB trade rumors

Live updates: Latest MLB trade rumors and Phillies free agency news, including Andrew Miller
The Phillies have been rather quiet the last few days, not making nearly the splash many expected at MLB's Winter Meetings in Las Vegas this past week — with the exception of signing veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen to a three-year deal. And while it seems as though the Phillies will have to wait on prize free agent hitters like Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, a report from Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia on Friday afternoon indicated that they may not be waiting as long to go after the bullpen help they seek. The Phillies had also been linked to reliever Zach Britton, who is represented by the same agent as Harper, Scott Boras, but Salisbury's colleague, Corey Seidman, believes the left-handed Miller, 33, is the much better option for the Phils, despite his somewhat concerning injury history. And looking at his numbers, you can see why. From 2014-17, he made 260 appearances and had a 1.72 ERA with 421 strikeouts in 261 innings. There was simply no weakness … [Read more...] about Live updates: Latest MLB trade rumors and Phillies free agency news, including Andrew Miller
MLB trade rumors: Could Phillies make a move for Bryce Harper or Andrew McCutchen?
The Phillies have already added some depth to their lineup by acquiring Asdrubal Cabrera from the Mets ahead of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline. And as the clock ticks down to 4 p.m., it appears the Phillies are looking to add a little more help, this time in the outfield.Actually, it could be A LOT of help, depending on which player, if any, they land. Let's take a quick look at the four big outfield names currently linked to the Phillies. Bryce HarperRemember when Manny Machado was far and away the biggest prize of the MLB trade deadline? Well, the former Oriole has been Los Angeles for almost two weeks now, and a new name has emerged that could de-throne Machado as the biggest name to be dealt this July: Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper. Here's more from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com:According to a source, the Nationals have let it be known that All-Star Bryce Harper is indeed available via trade, setting up what could be a wild race for the superstar with the 4 p.m. ET non-waiver … [Read more...] about MLB trade rumors: Could Phillies make a move for Bryce Harper or Andrew McCutchen?
MLB trade rumors: Phillies interested in Mets P Zack Wheeler, Rangers OF Joey Gallo
The (first) MLB trade deadline is almost here. With just hours left before Tuesday's non-waiver deadline (teams can still make trades in the month of August after passing all players involved through waivers), the Phillies — losers of three straight to the last-place Reds — may make another move or two. After acquiring Asdrubal Cabrera to man the infield and hopefully provide a little pop in the batting order, the outfield and pitching staff appear to be worthy of upgrading.Zack Wheeler, SP, MetsThe Phillies were gun-shy with Manny Machado, Zach Britton and a handful of other players they had reportedly been interested in, so a report by FanCred's Jon Heyman that the team is trying to trade for Mets hurler Zach Wheeler may be a bit of a reach. Even still, it's in the rumor mill. Philadelphia knows Wheeler well from their duels in the NL East, and like veteran pitcher (and former Phillie) Cole Hamels, he seems to be a guy who could use a change of … [Read more...] about MLB trade rumors: Phillies interested in Mets P Zack Wheeler, Rangers OF Joey Gallo
MLB trade rumors: Phillies’ Maikel Franco drawing interest from at least one team
As opposed to recent seasons, the majority of the trade rumors surrounding the Phillies involve a marquee player coming to Philadelphia, rather than one leaving in exchange for prospects. That tends to happen in the latter years of a rebuild, which is where Phillies fans have to be hoping their team is at after several seasons near the bottom of baseball. And, with a 41-33 record following a series win over the Nationals — they'll go for the sweep on Sunday night in D.C. — there's no reason to think the Phillies will be the sellers they've been in the past. That being said, Matt Klentak and Co. will need to make some room for any new additions, and with so many young guys vying for time, there's a chance the odd man out is someone who has been on the big league roster for a few years now: third baseman Maikel Franco.Prior to his latest injury, J.P. Crawford had taken over as the everyday third baseman, meaning Franco, who is slashing .255/.297/.425 with nine home … [Read more...] about MLB trade rumors: Phillies’ Maikel Franco drawing interest from at least one team
