Similarly, we used to import even the simplest phones, today, we are the second-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world," he said. "Not only this, in India, on an average, we have a ‘unicorn’ every 10 days," Modi added. BANGKOK (The Nation/Asia News Network): The actual number of Covid-19 infections must be 10 times higher than reported by the Public Health Ministry as most patients develop mild symptoms, top virologist Yong Poovorawan (pic) said on Sunday (June 26). Thailand recorded 2,378 Covid-19 cases and 17 deaths on Sunday, according to the ministry. Dr Yong also pointed out that the number of children infected by Covid-19 has surged now that schools have reopened, triggering a spread among families. With children, he said, it was difficult to tell if they have the common flu or Covid-19. "We expect Covid-19 to spread quickly from this month and the number of infections to reach their peak between July and September," he said. Look Out! New Data Shows There Are 10 Times More Asteroids Than We Thought Say Scientists
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There are ten times more asteroids than astronomers thought according to new data from a space telescope. The findings come from a huge data release earlier this month from the European Space Agency’s Gaia space telescope, which was launched in 2013 and since then has been gradually creating an ever more detailed 3D map of our Milky Way galaxy. The so-called “DR3” dataset includes more than 150,000 objects in the solar system objects, most of them asteroids—though also some moons. “Based on Gaia DR3, Finnish researchers will change the conception of asteroids in our solar system,” said Karri Muinonen, Academy Professor at the University of Helsinki, Finland, which was involved in the new data release. It’s thought that the new data will enormously help astronomers in calculating accurate orbits for asteroids. That’s because Gaia data adds-in the physical properties of asteroids. Rather than just seeing them as a … [Read more...] about Look Out! New Data Shows There Are 10 Times More Asteroids Than We Thought Say Scientists

Parrot Plumage Color May Be Linked To Body Size And Climate
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Spectacular plumage color like that seen in many parrot species is usually associated sexual selection, which raises the question: are parrots genuinely monogamous? Or are other factors influencing their dazzling colors? People love parrots, at least partly because of their often spectacular plumage colors. “The colors that parrots display are impressively beautiful and rare when compared with other birds”, said Luisana Carballo, who is the lead author of a recent study of parrot plumage color and a doctoral candidate at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology . In fact, parrots are one of the most colorful groups of birds, but the reasons for this are unclear. Is it because most parrot species nest in tree hollows, where they are safer from predators than if they nested in open cup nests or on the ground? Or perhaps it’s because parrots are the only birds that can synthesize their own red, orange and yellow … [Read more...] about Parrot Plumage Color May Be Linked To Body Size And Climate

A Toy Kit For Little Architects And Engineers
Strawbees, a simple building tool for kids, has been years in the making. It started when founder Erik Thorstensson was growing up in Sweden, and he realized how expensive traditional toys were after his mother told him to make another Transformer himself, rather than buy him brand new one. Later in life, Thorstensson traveled to India for a community service project, where the kids he worked with took to playing with the volunteers’ clothespins as if they were toy construction modules. advertisement advertisement If rudimentary clothespins could inspire children to start thinking spatially and creatively, a sleeker–but still inexpensive–solution couldn’t be far off, Thorstensson thought. To build Strawbees, Thorstensson created a flexible, plastic building unit that’s shaped like a flat lollipop.
