Sharad Shah Sharad Shah is a rare or perhaps near extinct species in the Indian stock market: the permabear. And unlike most traders of his vintage, he makes no bones about his market strategy, short selling stocks. A stock market player for nearly 40 years now, Shah is considered something of a maverick by those who know him. Many of his contemporaries find him too outspoken and even loud, but Shah is not the one to mince words. His trading style, or rather his investment ideology, if one can call it that, has landed Shah in trouble quite a few times in the past. Angry promoters have complained about him to the regulator, to investigative agencies, to the cops. Some threatened him with violence for short selling their stocks, and a few others even made good on their word. Not that it made any difference to Shah’s worldview of the stock market. With shares now in a freefall, Shah feels his theory has been vindicated, and it is payback time. Benchmark indices are down close to 15 … [Read more...] about Long story short: More pain ahead in midcaps, smallcaps, says veteran trader Sharad Shah

More than 260 stocks hit 52-week low, 450 stocks hit lower circuit today
The downward trend continued on Dalal Street for the fourth consecutive session on May 11. More than 260 stocks on the BSE hit 52-week low and the number of stocks at lower circuit were significantly higher than the stocks that hit upper circuit. Endless Ukraine-Russia war igniting inflation concerns and growth worries, faster policy tightening approach adopted by several central banks, including Federal Reserve, the beginning of rate hike cycle in India, consistent FII selling, rupee depreciation, and inflation concerns visible in corporate earnings are some of the reasons for the nervousness among the investors. The BSE Sensex fell below 54,000-mark in the morning but later pared losses to trade 276 points lower at 54,088. Meanwhile, the Nifty50 briefly traded below the psychological 16,000-mark but recouped some of losses to trade at 16,167, down 73 points. The benchmark indices have now fallen more than 10 percent each from the closing high of April 4. Technical View | Nifty forms Hammer pattern, pullback trade likely
The market breadth was in favour of bears as four-and-half shares declined for every share rising on the NSE. The Nifty50 on May 11 failed to hold on to the early rebound and traded lower for a major part of the session amid volatility, continuing the downtrend for the fourth consecutive session. Auto, technology, and FMCG stocks were under pressure. The index smartly defended the psychological 16,000 mark and recouped more than 170 points from the day's low to form a bearish candle which resembles the Hammer kind of pattern on the daily charts. The Hammer is a bullish reversal pattern formed after a decline. It consists of no upper shadow, a small body, and a long lower shadow. The long lower shadow signifies the stock bounced back after testing its support, where demand is located. Experts say generally such pattern formation is an indication of some kind of pullback rally but only if the coming session closes on a strongly positive note. The volatility index climbed … [Read more...] about Technical View | Nifty forms Hammer pattern, pullback trade likely
