Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There has been a smoldering fire on the geopolitical stage that, if we continue to ignore, we risk allowing it to spread and burn its surrounding environment. I’m referring to the convergence of multiple technology revolutions with the high-stakes competition between the United States and a rising authoritarian competitor in China. Whichever country leads in technology will sit at the commanding heights of the global economic and trade system, geopolitics, and a new age of innovation. Ultimately, we must ensure the light we see in the future is the beacon of freedom, democratic values, liberal market principles, and private sector-led economy rather than the dangerous, destructive flames of state-led authoritarianism. We’re waking up to a five-alarm fire. Last month, I testified before the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee in a hearing titled “The United States, China, and the Fight for Global … [Read more...] about Washington Must Wake Up To The Innovation Imperative

The Dallas Mavericks Need To Take Control Of Their Own Future
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Dallas Mavericks have just lost two straight games to the Charlotte Hornets, one of the league's worst teams, which acts as a symptom of what has been an underwhelming season for the Texas-based organization. What's even worse than their diminishing playoffs odds is the fact that the Mavericks won't have much control in the offseason about.. well, anything, really. Kyrie Irving and Christian Wood - the team's second and third-best players - are both unrestricted free agents, who have the right to leave outright. Tim Hardaway Jr and Davis Bertans, two players with inconsistent production on fairly large deals, remain on the books and won't necessarily be easy to move off of. And the middle of it all is Luka Dončić, the Slovenian superstar who is unquestionably a Top 5 talent, and a franchise-carrying player. With three years left on his contract after the conclusion of this season, Dončić looks increasingly trapped … [Read more...] about The Dallas Mavericks Need To Take Control Of Their Own Future
Forget Job Titles: 7 Reasons To Take A Skills-Based Approach To Hiring Talent
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Meredith Bryan Scan any resume, and take note of what pops: job titles, company names, college degrees. But in today’s competitive labor market, businesses need workers with the right skills to do the job, not workers who’ve negotiated prestige titles that can mean different things at different organizations. Out-of-date job titles and requirements only serve to limit applicant pools in a moment when hiring managers are striving to attract and retain diverse, high-quality talent. Instead, recent research shows that a candidate’s skills are 5x more predictive of their job performance than hiring for education. “The future of work is all based on skills,” says Joseph Hanna, chief product officer at Magnit, a leading integrated workforce management platform. Innovative companies like Magnit are leveraging data and new technologies to facilitate this broader shift toward skills-based hiring, which will … [Read more...] about Forget Job Titles: 7 Reasons To Take A Skills-Based Approach To Hiring Talent

Contact centers are evolving, and your technology should, too. In the past, with legacy call centers, customer journeys were relatively simple and linear: Call in, talk to an agent and resolve the problem. But those days are long gone. With the rise of omnichannel communication, today’s customer journey is more complex and the route to a successful customer experience (CX) may crisscross its way through several different channels, touching not only human agents but bots along the way. A Quantum Leap In Timing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Paul is President of Quantum Computing at ColdQuanta , where he leads the team building the world’s most useful quantum computer. So much of modern life relies on GPS that it has been estimated that an outage would cost the U.S. economy over $1 billion per day. Such an outage isn’t too far-fetched. We have seen recent examples of GPS being blocked in conflict zones, spoofed for nefarious purposes and disrupted by solar storms. At its heart, GPS is a timing system. To understand how timing relates to navigation, and how quantum technology will enable us to overcome the limitations of GPS, we need to go back in history a few hundred years. Dava Sobel’s book Longitude recounts the tale of John Harrison’s mechanical clock that revolutionized maritime navigation and global trade. In the same way that Harrison’s clock accelerated economic growth through the 18th and 19th centuries, optical clocks are … [Read more...] about A Quantum Leap In Timing

Every U.S. Crypto Exchange (And Binance) Is Being Investigated By The SEC, Says Senator Lummis Staffer
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Widely circulated reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating $20 billion crypto exchange Coinbase are just the tip of the iceberg, according to a staffer from U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis’ (R-Wy) office. The staffer says every U.S. crypto exchange—and the largest crypto exchange in the world, Binance—are in various stages of being investigated. There are more than 40 U.S. cryptocurrency exchanges, according to crypto data site, CoinGecko. The SEC has not responded to multiple requests for comment. Coming in the wake of a number of SEC actions asserting the regulator’s domain over the crypto industry, and an equally strong response by the U.S Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) pushing back against what it characterizes as “regulation through enforcement,” the staffer says the SEC urgently wants to resolve its dispute with the CFTC over crypto jurisdiction. If the matter isn’t … [Read more...] about Every U.S. Crypto Exchange (And Binance) Is Being Investigated By The SEC, Says Senator Lummis Staffer
