The group used criteria including obesity and smoking as well as environmental factors like child poverty and air pollution. Hawaii was declared the healthiest state of 2018, while Louisiana was the unhealthiest. Not all states are created equal when it comes to health. To get a better sense of how healthy each state in the US is, for the 29th year in a row, the United Health Foundation has ranked America’s states. Hawaii made the top of the list as America’s healthiest state, while Louisiana was declared the unhealthiest. Looking at data from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Medical Association, and the Census Bureau, the rankings took into account everything from obesity and smoking to community and environmental factors, such as child poverty and air pollution, to public policies like immunizations, and health outcomes like cancer deaths and … [Read more...] about The 50 US states ranked from most to least healthy

Chris Solari Detroit Free Press Published 6:01 AM EDT Oct 3, 2018 EAST LANSING — Brian Lewerke looked to his right. Then he looked to his left. That’s where Andre Welch stood, wide open, near the left sideline. Lewerke eyed him briefly, then turned his head back the other way and fired toward Felton Davis III in the end zone. Central Michigan’s Sean Bunting stepped in front of the pass. Another interception added to Lewerke’s growing turnover total. But like the four interceptions before that, there remains room for debate whether the junior quarterback is to blame or whether he is a victim of circumstances. After Saturday’s 31-20 win over the Chippewas, Lewerke initially said he felt the CMU defensive back interfered with Davis. His opinion changed after rewatching the play. But Lewerke still felt it was the right call to throw to Davis on the slant rather than to Welch in the flat. Chris Solari Detroit Free Press Published 5:18 PM EDT Sep 26, 2018 EAST LANSING — Chuck Bullough spent the past three years at Eastern Michigan before returning to his alma mater. And Michigan State’s new defensive ends coach brings with him vital experience and knowledge in how to game-plan for Central Michigan. He’s not alone, either. Fellow new assistant coaches Paul Haynes and Don Treadwell both were at Kent State last year. And first-year MSU special teams analyst Shayne Graham was at CMU a year ago as special teams coordinator under coach John Bonamego. “So we have some guys on staff here that have experience against Central Michigan,” Bullough said Wednesday of the 18th-ranked Spartans’ game Saturday against the Chippewas (noon, FS1). Chris Solari Detroit Free Press Published 11:00 p.m. UTC Aug 7, 2018 EAST LANSING — It’s a position for which Mike Tressel has been groomed. The question is, where will Michigan State’s new defensive coordinator be inside Spartan Stadium come game day? Tressel and Mark Dantonio will have that figured out when the lights come on for the season-opener against Utah State on Aug. 31. Until then … “We’ll have him up and down and all around to try and figure it out,” Dantonio said. “It’s about where he’s most comfortable and where I’m most comfortable.” After three seasons sharing the title with Harlon Barnett, who left in January to run the defense at Florida State, the longtime linebackers coach now takes over as Dantonio’s main defensive coordinator this season. It is now all on the longtime linebackers coach to be the synapse between Dantonio’s brain and an MSU defense that returns almost … [Read more...] about Michigan State football: Press box or sideline for DC Mike Tressel?
