US Supreme Court to hear Donald Trump’s tax return case next year

· December 14, 2019 ·

The US Supreme Court agreed on December 13 to hear cases next year over the release of Donald Trump's tax returns and financial records, setting the stage for a ruling during the presidential election campaign. Trump has been seeking to block access to his tax returns and other financial records in lawsuits involving New York prosecutors and the US House of Representatives.Lower courts have ruled that Trump must turn over the records but lawyers for the president appealed to the nation's highest court, arguing that as president, he has blanket immunity. The Supreme Court -- where conservative judges are in the majority -- said it will hear arguments during the March session with a ruling to be issued before the session ends on June 30.Close Trump, a New York real estate tycoon, is the first American president since Richard Nixon not to make his tax returns public, claiming they are under audit by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). related news US concerned about … [Read more...] about US Supreme Court to hear Donald Trump’s tax return case next year

Moneycontrol Pro Weekender: Global cheer trumps local fears

· December 14, 2019 ·

The events of the week gone by have set the stage for a global Santa rally. For starters, the United States Federal Reserve signalled that rates will remain lower for longer. The projections show the Fed expects US inflation to remain at 2 percent even in 2022. Where is the need to raise rates then?Analysts say that removes a source of uncertainty for the markets, although, with a stellar track record of central banks abjectly caving into market demands, it is hard to see how much extra comfort it provides.Close Perhaps more importantly, the Fed stands ready to pump in half a trillion dollars into the US repo markets, to avoid any kind of seizure there. It is also worth noting that, for the first time since 2017, the Fed’s balance sheet has expanded year-on-year. related news Moneycontrol Pro Picks of the Week Moneycontrol Pro pick of the week Moneycontrol Pro’s picks of the week Almost half of the earlier shrinkage in its balance sheet … [Read more...] about Moneycontrol Pro Weekender: Global cheer trumps local fears
