Majority Of Voters Believe Buttigieg’s Response To Toxic Train Derailment Was ‘Fair’ Or ‘Poor’: POLL
More voters appear to be dissatisfied than content with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s response to an Ohio train derailment that exposed a small town to toxic chemicals in early February, according to a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released Friday. A Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, on Feb. 3 and a controlled burn conducted on Feb. 6 to alleviate pressure within the cars released harmful chemicals including vinyl chloride into the environment. Buttigieg caught flack for failing to respond to the derailment until ten days later, and for not visiting the derailment site until three weeks after the initial crash. (RELATED: ‘Superman’s Not Coming’: Ohioans Brace For Tough Road Ahead After Toxic Train Derailment) Thirty-one percent of polled voters said that Buttigieg’s response to the derailment was “poor,” while 30% said that it was “fair,” according to the results. Can You Use Your 529 To Take A Cruise?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “Has anyone had clients actually do the apocryphal story of a client using a 529 to go on a continuing education cruise of Europe?” asked one of my peers in a recent forum, “Trying to figure (this out) after client asked.” Can You Get An Education At Sea? There are a host of companies offering education opportunities in combination with a cruise. Continuing Education, Inc. claims to have, “over 100 Continuing Medical Education and Dental CE cruise conferences.” This allows medical professionals to fulfill the requirements of their professional designation in combination with a vacation. There’s also University at Sea, CME Away at Sea, AEA Optometric Cruise Seminars, and many, many more companies that would gladly give a professional continuing education classes and an excuse to vacation. However, these are all continuing education classes, not college courses from an accredited school. These are for-profit companies … [Read more...] about Can You Use Your 529 To Take A Cruise?
Turtle Launches Electric Bike Cab To Whisk Riders Around Streets Of Paris
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Micro-mobility startup Turtle has launched an on-demand electric bike service that allows riders to order via an application a bike cab driven by a chauffeur. Turtle says its new urban passenger transport service targets both Parisians and tourists who want a unique and affordable alternative to ride-sharing services like Uber. The vehicle has three wheels and the company says that it emits no emissions and is made entirely of recycled material. The launch of the service comes after 5 months of testing including 3,100 trips. Because Turtle can use Paris’ growing network of bike lanes, the company is betting that it can deliver faster trips than cars or even public transportation, particularly during periods of heavy traffic. To attract riders, the application will display the price before the ride begins. And all the drivers have completed a training program and will be salaried employees rather than independent … [Read more...] about Turtle Launches Electric Bike Cab To Whisk Riders Around Streets Of Paris

Winners And Losers Reveal The Market’s Flavor This Year: Nvidia Is Up, Pfizer Is Down
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin You can understand a lot about this year’s stock market by looking at the winners and losers among the nation’s biggest stocks. Among the 167 stocks with a market value of $100 billion or more, the best performers this year are: · Nvidia (NVDA), up 83%. · Meta Platforms (META), up 71%. · Tesla (TSLA), up 55%. The worst performers are: · Pfizer PFE , down 21% · Bank of America BAC , down 19%. · ConocoPhillips COP , down 16%. Underdogs As if often the case, I’m more partial to the losers. Let’s start with Bank of America. Spurred by the failure of Signature Bank and Silicon Value Bank, bank stocks have fallen hard. Bank of America stock now sells for less than nine times earnings. Its average multiple in the past decade has been 14. That sounds like a chance to buy a good company on bad news, which I love to do. But banks are suffering because short-term rates have risen above … [Read more...] about Winners And Losers Reveal The Market’s Flavor This Year: Nvidia Is Up, Pfizer Is Down
3 children, 3 adults fatally shot at Nashville grade school
By JONATHAN MATTISE and TRAVIS LOLLER (Associated Press) NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A female shooter wielding two “assault-style” rifles and a pistol killed three students and three adults at a private Christian school in Nashville on Monday in what marks the latest in a series of mass shootings in a country growing increasingly unnerved by bloodshed in schools. The suspect also died after being shot by police following the violence at The Covenant School, a Presbyterian school for about 200 students from preschool through sixth grade. Police said the shooter was a 28-year-old woman from Nashville, after initially saying she appeared to be in her teens. Authorities were working to identify her and whether she had a connection to the school. The killings come as communities around the nation are reeling from a spate of school violence, including the massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, last year; a first grader who shot his teacher in Virginia; and a shooting last … [Read more...] about 3 children, 3 adults fatally shot at Nashville grade school
