JAKARTA, Jan 20 (Reuters): Asia's emerging market currencies edged higher on Thursday, as easing US Treasury yields nipped dollar gains, while central banks in Indonesia and Malaysia left their policy rates unchanged ahead of the key Federal Reserve meeting next week. As inflation concerns herald a global shift toward tighter monetary policy, mainly in developed economies, central banks in Asia appear to be moving at a slower pace to ensure their economies are stable and recovery is not hampered. China cut its mortgage reference rate for the first time in nearly two years, as economic data this week showed further weakening in consumption and the troubled property sector. As expected, central banks in Indonesia and Malaysia left their policy rates unchanged. Reuters polls conducted ahead of the meetings showed economists expected both Bank Negara Malaysia and Bank Indonesia to wait until the second half to start raising rates. The rupiah and ringgit gained 0.1% each, and … [Read more...] about Emerging markets – Indonesia central bank hold rates; Asian forex gain as US yields ease while China cuts mortgage rates
Quick Navigation Marketing tasks and methodologies have significantly changed over the past decade. Long-term marketing plans are no longer logical or cost-efficient for brands given the rate at which the digital space is adapting and evolving. NEW YORK/LONDON: Risk aversion dominated markets on Friday as stocks slumped on Wall Street and in Europe, oil prices fell from seven-year highs earlier in the week and bond prices surged with traders scurrying for the relative safety of government debt. Poor subscriber growth reported late Thursday at Netflix Inc sent its shares plunging 21.8% and cast a pall over a market already shaken by concerns the Federal Reserve will tighten monetary policy too aggressively to fight inflation. Investors are waiting for details from the Fed's policy meeting next week on how it will proceed at a time that inflation is such a hot political issue it could force a more hawkish stance. Data, however, won't begin to show an expected slower pace of rising consumer prices for at least a few months, making Fed Chair Jerome Powell's job more difficult as he tries to calm markets. "We know the Fed is beginning to pivot and the problem is that the inflation numbers are not going to start to trend … [Read more...] about GLOBAL MARKETS-Bond yields tumble as Netflix fuels stock market sell-off
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Teradyne (NYSE: TER) , a company that develops automatic test equipment focused on the semiconductor, industrial automation, and wireless industries, gained about 5% over the last week and by about 4% over the last month, compared to the S&P 500 which remained roughly flat. Teradyne stock also remains up by a solid 45% over the last quarter. There are a couple of factors likely driving the recent rally. Firstly, demand for the company’s products and services is rising following the Covid-19 lockdowns. For instance, the semiconductor testing business is seeing higher traction driven by demand for mobile applications processors and RF chips, while the industrial automation business also sees rising sales of its robotics products as the capex cycle across industries picks up. Over Q3 2021, the company posted a stronger than expected set of earnings with revenue rising 15% versus last year and adjusted EPS growing 35%. … [Read more...] about Despite Recent Rally, Teradyne Stock Is Still Worth A Look
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Our theme of Apple Component Supplier Stocks – which includes a diverse set of companies that supply components for Apple’s iPhones and other iDevices, has remained roughly flat year-to-date in 2022, compared to the broader S&P 500 which remains down by about -4%. Over 2021, the theme gained about 17%, underperforming the broader market which gained about 27% over the same period. So what does 2022 hold for Apple supplier stocks? While high-growth technology stocks, in general, have seen some weakness, due to rising bond yields and the Federal Reserves’ hawkish stance, Apple supplier stocks could benefit from the fact that they trade at relatively lower multiples versus other tech stocks (P/S of about 4.7x). Moreover, the semiconductor shortage, which hurt the broader consumer electronics industry, could also ease a bit this year, potentially helping these stocks. That being said, demand for these companies is heavily … [Read more...] about Will Lower Multiple Tech Stocks Do Better In 2022?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Key Takeaways: Equity Index Futures Rally on Positive Earnings Reports Small-Cap Stocks Diverge From Large-Cap Stocks Signaling Market Weakness Investors Have Reasons to Remain Positive About Stocks Equity index futures are pointing to a higher open as investors try to bounce back from two days of selling and a very weak start to 2022. The problem may be that this morning’s rally looks similar to Wednesday where stocks pushed higher before the open but weren’t able to hold the gains. Perhaps Thursday will be different because of some positive earnings announcements; the S&P 500 (SPX) appears to be testing a short-term level of support, and the VIX (Cboe Market Volatility Index) was trading lower before the bell. The financials may get a much needed shot in the arm as bellwether insurer Travelers (TRV) put up an excellent quarter by reporting better-than-expected earnings and revenue. TRV rallied 4.63% in … [Read more...] about The Philly Fed Report Sees Strong Growth In Manufacturing Despite Higher Jobless Claims
- A + A BENGALURU (Jan 21): Gold prices were muted on Friday (Jan 21) and on course for a second consecutive weekly gain as investors turned to safe-haven assets while awaiting signals of interest rate hikes from the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) meeting next week. Spot gold was unchanged at US$1,838.21 (about RM7,692) per ounce as of 0035 GMT. US gold futures were down 0.2% at US$1,838.70. Benchmark US 10-year Treasury yields dropped on Thursday, reducing the opportunity cost of holding non-interest bearing bullion, and buoying gold. Gold has gained about 1.2% so far this week and is en route to its second weekly gain in three this month — a positive start for bullion in a year that is expected to be difficult. All eyes are on the US central bank's Federal Open Market Committee scheduled meet on Jan 25 and 26 for any updates on the Fed's existing plans for rate hikes against the backdrop of surging inflation. Although gold is usually perceived as an inflationary … [Read more...] about Gold steadies, heads for second straight weekly gain
