Name Change Celebrates Inclusive Future For Seattle Audubon Society
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The non-profit organisation, Seattle Audubon Society, has formally changed its name and will now be known as Birds Connect Seattle © Copyright by GrrlScientist | hosted by Forbes Last August, I told you about the Seattle Audubon Society , a community-based bird conservation and birding organisation where I was a member, and its decision to change its name to be more inclusive to people from all walks of life (more here ). They’ve made their choice to formally change their name to “Birds Connect Seattle”. That’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it? This bold decision contrasts with the National Audubon Society ’s recent decision, reached after one year of deliberations, namely, not to change their name. “I understand people may be wondering how that is possible if ‘Audubon’ remains in our name. That is a question the Board has grappled with, and ultimately, they decided that the organization transcends … [Read more...] about Name Change Celebrates Inclusive Future For Seattle Audubon Society

Istanbul Elections: Failure Of Polarising Tactics In Turkey
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan casts his ballot at a polling station in Istanbul, Sunday, ... [+] June 23, 2019. Polls have opened in a repeat election in Turkey's largest city where Erdogan and his political allies could lose control of Istanbul's administration for the first time in 25 years. (AP Photo/Emrah Gurel) For President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, losing control of Istanbul, Turkey's economic and political powerhouse, at the local elections yesterday is a big blow, possibly the most stinging defeat of his political career. If the AK Party hadn't pushed for the cancellation of the March election, it would have been easier to recover from a narrow defeat in Istanbul and several other major cities, including Ankara and Adana. Now, however, after a defeat of a far more significant margin, the ruling party is in a much weaker position. Istanbul's importance The elections have been viewed widely as … [Read more...] about Istanbul Elections: Failure Of Polarising Tactics In Turkey
‘The Mandalorian’ Finally Seems To Have A Master Plan In Place
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Well, it took five episodes, but we now have an answer to the question “what is The Mandalorian actually about now?” For two seasons, it was about Din protecting Grogu and getting him to the Jedi. But that didn’t work out, so now the show was about…? That question didn’t really seem like it had all that much of a firm answer until this week’s quite good Bryce Dallas-Howard directed episode fully spelled it out. The Mandalorian is now about reassembling the nation of Mandalore. This really started in earnest a few episodes ago with the return to Mandalore by Din and Bo-Katan, seeing both that it was not actually poisoned, even if it was mostly reduced to glass. Then Bo-Katan saw a Mythosaur, a beast of legend, which seems to be interpreted as a sign that the former ruler is the one meant to reunite the people, even if it’s Din that still has the Darksaber, though he doesn’t seem all that attached to it. This … [Read more...] about ‘The Mandalorian’ Finally Seems To Have A Master Plan In Place
The Curious Dilemma Of ESG Investing And Your Retirement
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Jason R. Escamilla, founder and CIO of ImpactAdvisor LLC in San Francisco, has seen it all before. It was nearly 30 years ago when he initially tried Socially Responsible Investing (“SRI”), the predecessor of ESG. And he was cool with it. Until everything changed. “ESG/SRI used to be about selectivity and choice,” says Escamilla. “I first got involved with SRI/ESG investing in the 90s. For decades, it was about selectivity and choice or preferences—primarily among institutional investors/clients. Funny thing happened on the way to going mainstream. ESG became the bully. The divestment movements ushered in powerful attention and support from the ‘non-investment class’ only a few years ago: students. Large pools of investment capital: university endowments adopted the cause. I still remember three years ago when CNBC’s Jim Cramer recommended permanently disinvesting from fossil fuels based on this force.” As a professional … [Read more...] about The Curious Dilemma Of ESG Investing And Your Retirement
Digital Nomading: The Secret To Eliminating The Distractions Of Travel
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin David is the cofounder of Aloa , a platform for outsourcing software development. Aloa has helped 200+ startups/companies build their tech. Today, in 2023, we live in a unique world where so many have the opportunity to wrap work around life rather than life around work. No longer are the traditional days of long commutes and dry offices. While I'm generalizing here, as many still do have to go into the office, what I'm alluding to is the redefined landscape of work-life balance. The opportunities for travel and exploration are endless when you can work remotely. You can travel halfway around the world, live in an entirely new environment and immerse yourself in an enchantingly different culture—all while maintaining your job. However, what glitters isn't always gold. For nomads, that paradigm sits within FOMO (fear of missing out). It's a complaint inflated with privilege, but a common complaint I hear … [Read more...] about Digital Nomading: The Secret To Eliminating The Distractions Of Travel
